2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics: Canada to announce men’s hockey roster at noon ET Wednesday
After months of speculation, Team Canada’s 25-man roster for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics will be announced at noon ET on Wednesday.
Here’s what you need to know.
Canada’s Olympic roster
Hockey Canada leadership, including men’s national team general manager Doug Armstrong, will announce the full roster on Wednesday via a media conference in Minnesota, the site of this year’s World Junior Championship.
Six players were already named to the team over the summer, so there are 19 roster spots up for grabs. Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who scored the golden goal for Canada in 2010, has already been named to the team, along with Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Sam Reinhart and Brayden Point.
Canada won gold in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, the last two Olympics with NHL participation. They claimed the bronze medal at Pyeonchang in 2018 and failed to medal at in Bejing in 2022. Team Canada is currently a +135 favourite to win gold in 2026 on the Olympic hockey futures board.
Canada will compete in Group A, along with Czechia, Switzerland and France.
The opening ceremony for the 2026 Olympic games is set for Feb. 6. The men’s hockey tournament begins on Feb. 11, with Canada opening the preliminary round against Czechia on Feb. 12. The gold medal game is scheduled for Feb. 22.
