We’re headed to the Central Division Tuesday night, with the Winnipeg Jets set to host the Dallas Stars.  This is the first meeting between the teams in nearly two full years.  The Jets have been off since Saturday when they dropped a 2-1 overtime decision in San Jose.  This will be the first of a three-game road trip for Dallas, who last played on Friday in a 4-1 home loss against the Senators.

The Jets are -126 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 5.5.

Stars vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

Because of the temporary divisional realignment last year, this is the first meeting between these teams since early December in 2019.  They met four times in the 2019-20 season, with each team winning once in regulation and once in overtime.  The Over/Under split evenly.

Dallas hasn’t been able to get much momentum this year, as they sit at 3-4-1 overall and 2-3 on the road.  They’ve been a terrible cover option at 2-6 against the spread.  The Stars have failed to hit the Over in any of their eight games.

The Jets come into this contest with a 4-2-2 overall record and they are 2-0 at home.  They’ve dominated Dallas in their own barn, winning eight of their last nine against the Stars in Winnipeg.  The Jets are an even 4-4 ATS for the year and have covered in both of their home games.  There’s been plenty of goals, as the total has gone Over in five of eight games overall and six of their last seven at home.

Dallas Stars

Dallas hasn’t been blowing the doors off of anyone this year.  They’re riding a three-game losing streak and the three wins they do have all came in overtime or a shootout.  After suiting up in just three games last season due to injury, Tyler Seguin has struggled to find his groove early this year.  Seguin has two goals and an assist in eight games and has been held off the scoresheet in three straight contests.  Defenceman Miro Heiskanen leads the team with seven points (2G, 5A) and has picked up a point in five straight games.

After spending last season in Vancouver, off-season signee Braden Holtby has picked up the majority of the starts in net and should get the nod against Winnipeg.  Holtby has been one of the few bright spots for the Stars.  He’s 2-3-0 with a 2.40 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.  Keep in mind, Holtby’s record would likely be better if Dallas could generate more offence.  The Stars score an average of 1.8 goals per game, 31st in the league.  They allow 2.8 goals, good for 13th.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg has to be happy with a winning record after playing six of their first eight games on the road.  Prior to their overtime loss on Saturday, the Jets had been riding a four-game win streak.  They’ve picked up points in six of eight games.  Kyle Connor has carried the offence early.  Connor leads the team with 14 points (7G, 7A) and has five points in his last three games.  Pierre-Luc Dubois looks like he’s finally comfortable in Winnipeg after last season’s trade.  Dubois is second on the team with 10 points (6G, 4A).  Mark Scheifele has only played two games because of COVID protocols, but he is expected to return against Dallas.

Standout netminder Connor Hellebuyck should get the start.  Likely the starter for the U.S. team in the upcoming 2022 Beijing Olympics, Hellebuyck has started the season with a 3-2-2 record.  His numbers, however, have dipped below his high expectations.  Hellebuyck has posted a 3.42 GAA and .899 SV.  Winnipeg has supported Hellebuyck by scoring an average of 3.9 goals per game, sixth-best in the NHL.  They allow an average of 3.4 goals, 28th in the league.
