Detroit Red Wings vs. Montreal Canadiens Prediction, NHL Odds
Montreal picked up their first win of the year versus Detroit two weeks ago and have only managed to sneak out one more W since then.
The Canadiens are -140 favourites to win on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5.
Red Wings vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds
Montreal came out on top in the last meeting between these teams, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Red Wings. Both teams have dropped their last two games overall heading into this one. Sports Interaction bettors think Detroit has the better chance of ending their current slide, with 82 per cent of action taking the Red Wings.
Detroit has played the over in four of their nine this year and has been scoring at an impressive average of 3.2 goals per game, sixth-best in the league. Bettors have been making bank betting on the Wings to cover, as they are 7-2 against the spread, so far this year.
The Habs are 3-7 ATS and only covered once on their four-game road trip. After playing the under through the first five games of the season, they have hit the over in four of their last five.
Detroit Red Wings
Detroit’s comeback fell just short in their 5-4 loss in Toronto on Saturday. Montreal native Joe Veleno made his season debut, scoring a goal and adding an assist. Fellow rookie Moritz Seider added an assist to extend his point streak to eight games.
The Red Wings continue their four-game road trip in Montreal with redemption in mind after being embarrassed 6-1 at the Bell Centre two weeks ago. Visiting Canada means forward and leading scorer Tyler Bertuzzi, unvaccinated against COVID, is ineligible to play and will be staying home. Detroit is 0-3 versus Canadian teams, so it’s safe to say they miss their leading scorer when they are North of the border.
Alex Nedeljkovic will likely get the nod in net tonight. The American is 1-1-2 with a 3.27 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens couldn’t have imagined their West Coast road trip going so far south. They lost three out of four games and got outscored 14-9 overall, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Forward Cedric Paquette earned himself a two-game suspension Sunday afternoon in Anaheim, while Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry were both injured and are listed as game-time decisions for tonight.
The Habs young superstar and Calder trophy favourite Cole Caufield has been sent down to the AHL’s Laval Rocket. Bruiser Michael Pezzetta has been brought up to replace the rookie. Montreal hopes Caufield can get his scoring touch back by playing a few games in the lower league.
Montreal will also be without centre Mathieu Perrault, who scored a hat-trick against Detroit earlier this year. He has come down with a rare eye condition and will be out for a couple of weeks.
