Rangers vs. Oilers Prediction: NHL Betting Odds
The Edmonton Oilers are going to need even more from their dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl if they hope to climb back into the playoff race. They had won four in a row prior to Saturday night’s setback in Toronto and are seven points out of the last wild card spot in the Western Conference. They welcome in a New York Rangers squad that just snapped a six-game losing skid with a victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Monday’s game is the first of a four-game road swing for the Rangers.
Rangers vs Oilers Betting Analysis
The Rangers were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season as they went public about putting the franchise through a full rebuild and while it looks as though they will have an early pick at the draft, they’ve also been tough to play against under coach David Quinn. New York is 40-27 on the puckline spread this year.
Expectations were much different for the Oilers. They’ve only recently found a bit of consistency that helped them string a few wins together, but this is still a team that has a lot of holes. Outside of McDavid, Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they don’t have a lot of depth up front and the squad’s play in its own zone has been embarrassing at times again this year. The Oilers are 29-39 on the puckline, which has cost their supporters more than a whopping 22 units.
New York Rangers
The Rangers are clearly looking to the future with their roster as they play out the string in the regular season. There’s promise with a number of the club’s youngest players in Pavel Buchnevich, Filip Chytil, Tony DeAngelo, Brett Howden, and the newly-acquired Brendan Lemieux. However, one of their top prospects won’t be in action tonight or likely for a while after rookie defenceman Libor Hajek was injured in Saturday’s 4-2 win over the Devils. Hajek was a key component of the deal that sent Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Edmonton Oilers
McDavid continues to put points on the board at a staggering pace and sits third overall with 96 points in 64 games played, while Draisaitl is second in the show with 41 goals (five back of Alex Ovechkin) and has 86 points. From there, Nugent-Hopkins is working on another strong offensive year with 58 points while starting most of his shifts in the defensive end. Just two other Edmonton forwards have at least 20 points – Zack Kassian has 20 and Alex Chaisson has 30.
