PWHL Odds: Ottawa Charge, Vancouver Goldeneyes complete record six-player trade

There’s been a shakeup in the PWHL as the expansion Vancouver Goldeneyes have completed a six-player trade with the Ottawa Charge.

Here’s what you need to know.

Ottawa Charge

This is the largest trade in terms of player movement in league history, with 10 days to go before the month-long Olympic break.

Forward Michela Cava, who was tied for third in Vancouver with five points (1G, 4A) in 13 games, highlights the return for the Charge. Ottawa will also receive forward Brooke McQuigge and defender Emma Greco.

All three additions for the Charge have won a Walter Cup with the Minnesota Frost.

Cava is a two-time champion and McQuigge was a rookie on the Frost team that beat Ottawa in Game 4 of last year’s beast-of-five final. Greco won a Walter Cup in 2024 before spending last season in Boston.

“Michela Cava is a proven winner,” Charge general manager Mike Hirshfeld said. “We got to know her game extremely well from the PWHL Walter Cup Finals last season.”

Ottawa is currently tied with Toronto at fifth in the standings. The Charge dropped a 2-1 decision to Montreal last Tuesday, snapping a franchise-record six-game win streak.

Sitting at +1000 to win the Walter Cup on the PWHL futures board, Ottawa is back in action with a road game against the New York Sirens on Tuesday.

Vancouver Goldeneyes

The Goldeneyes will get three forwards in return, including 28-year-old rookie Anna Shokhina. The three-time Olympian for Russia has had a slow transition to the PWHL, recording just a goal and three assists in 12 games.

Vancouver is also adding Mannon McMahon and Austrian national team member Anna Meixner.

“These players will make an impact at both ends of the ice,” Vancouver GM Cara Gardner Morey said. “We want to compete with grit and speed, and these players embody those qualities.”

It’s been a tough year for the Goldeneyes, who sit tied for last in the league standings with fellow expansion club Seattle. Vancouver has dropped three straight games and averages a league-low 1.7 goals per game.

Vancouver, +750 to win the Walter Cup, returns to the ice for a home game against the Toronto Sceptres on Thursday.
