The Maple Leafs rolled to a 4-1 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night to improve to 8-2-0 in their past 11 games and are now knotted with the Florida Panthers atop the divisional standings with two games in hand. The Predators have been idle since dropping a 3-2 decision in Minnesota on Saturday night that extends their current slide to four games and marks their fourth straight loss, and their ninth defeat in 10 road games.

The Maple Leafs lead the way as -165 favourites on the Wednesday NHL odds and are an attractive +150 bet on the NHL puckline. The Predators lag as +140 underdogs and the total is listed at 5.5.

Predators vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds

Wednesday night’s matchup will be the first of two between these clubs this season. These teams split a pair of games last season, with the home side emerging victorious in each, capped by the Leafs’ 4-0 victory last December. The Maple Leafs hold an overall edge in head-to-head action, winning 10 of 15 meetings since 2015 and have surrendered just one total gain while topping the Predators in three straight on home ice. Toronto has played steady defence during their current 8-2-0 run at home, allowing just 1.80 goals per game and have seen eight of their past 10 victories at Scotiabank Arena come by multi-goal margins. The Predators have emerged as the weakest scoring team in the league during their rapid descent to the bottom of the NHL standings. Nashville has scored just 19 total goals during their epic road swoon but has earned the win in seven straight when scoring more than two goals.

Nashville Predators

If only the Predators packed a little more scoring punch, this would be a different conversation. While the Preds now sport the NHL’s lowest win total, they have still managed to pick up a point in each of their past three games and have seen just three of their past eight defeats come in regulation. Indeed, Nashville has remained effective on defence, allowing more than three goals just once in 11 games and rank 10th overall with a 3.16 team goals against average. Team captain Roman Josi has been doing his share. The Predators leading scorer has tallied eight points during a five-game points streak and leads all predators shooters on the NHL player props as a -165 bet to record a point on Wednesday. However, the trio of Filip Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly, and Steven Stamkos has continued to struggle, combining to tally just three total points over the past four games.

Toronto Maple Leafs

After avoiding a late-game meltdown in Saturday’s win in Tampa Bay, the Maple Leafs turned in a convincing performance in Monday’s win over Chicago and now sport an NHL-best 11-3-0 home record. Auston Matthews opened the scoring with his first goal since returning from an injury that put him on the shelf for most of November. Mitch Marner continues to provide the spark. Marner contributed a pair of helpers on Monday and has now recorded multiple points in nine of his past 11 outings, lifting him into the top 10 in NHL scoring with 33 points. Wednesday is also likely to mark the return of tough guy Ryan reaves from his recent five-game suspension. However, the status of rearguard Jake McCabe remains uncertain due to an upper body injury.
