NHL Odds and Betting Analysis
The Sharks have won eight of their last 10 meetings with the Canadiens, and seven of these games have come in under the posted total. Half of the games have had a total of 5.5 goals, but five of the last six totals have been down to five goals on the nose. The Sharks have won the last four meetings with the Canadiens failing to score more than two goals in all four meetings.
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens won their season opener in Buffalo by shootout but have lost four in a row since then. The first loss was in Washington followed by shortcomings at the New York Rangers, and then at home to Chicago and Toronto (in overtime). The Canadiens have scored just eight goals going into this three-game road trip, which will see them visit San Jose, Los Angeles and Anaheim. No player has scored more than one goal as Jonathan Drouin leads the team with two points. However, what might be more worrying is that Carey Price simply isn’t playing well. He has a GAA of 3.45 and a save percentage of .885. That isn’t like Price, who should be considered one of the best goalies in the world right now. After he signed a big-money extension in the summer, this isn’t the start that he needed to have.
San Jose Sharks
This is the final of five games in a row at home to start the season for the Sharks, who lost their first two games against Philadelphia and Los Angeles, then beat Buffalo and then lost to the Islanders. Like the Canadiens, their issues seem to be offensive as they have scored just eight goals to start the season. Kevin Labanc has three of those goals, but Logan Couture has one and the duo of Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton have no goals between them. That just isn’t going to cut it for the Sharks. The Sharks also need Martin Jones to get it going in goal as he has a 3.92 GAA and a save percentage of .881.
This is a veteran team and it might simply be a matter of them taking more time than usual to get it going. However, only four teams in the NHL are older than the Sharks by average age: Detroit, Anaheim, Calgary and Chicago.
Montreal Canadiens vs. San Jose Sharks prediction:
Sharks 3-2
