The Maple Leafs travel to Philadelphia on the heels of a disappointing 5-1 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Monday, while the Flyers look to win two in a row for the first time in almost two weeks.
Toronto is a -130 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 6.0.
Maple Leafs vs. Flyers NHL Betting Odds
The Maple Leafs have made marginal gains on the NHL odds ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup at Wells Fargo Center, improving slightly to their current position as -130 favourites. The Flyers get set to hit the ice as underdogs for the third time in six home outings this season, sporting +112 odds. The total has held steady at 6.0, with the OVER sporting strong -119 odds.
Wednesday night’s contest marks the first meeting between these long time rivals since December 2019. The Flyers have held the edge in recent head-to-head meetings, claiming victory in two of the past three, and knocking off the Maple Leafs in five of their past six visits to Philadelphia. The OVER has prevailed in three of their past four matchups. However, Toronto has struggled to generate offence during the club’s current two-game slide, potting just three total goals, and has been limited to two or fewer goals in four of their past six appearances at Wells Fargo Center. Home underdogs have also fared well when these two teams meet, earning the win in four of five, while five of their past seven overall clashes have been decided by just a single goal.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs saw the offensive woes that plagued them during the first two weeks of the season return with Monday’s 5-1 loss to LA. The club had mustered fewer than two goals per game during a 2-4-1 season-opening run before doubling that production during their recent five-game win streak. The Maple Leafs’ scoring woes have not resulted from lack of effort. Toronto ranks second in the NHL in shots on goal this season, and have averaged 35.8 shots on goal over that past six outings. However, the Leafs could benefit from more production from further down the lineup after seeing Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and William Nylander combine to score all 12 goals over the club’s past four games.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have managed to pick up at least a point in eight of 10 outings this season despite struggling to generate steady offence. Philadelphia currently enjoys a 4-1-1 run, but has potted more than two goals just twice during that stretch. The goaltending tandem of Carter Hart and Martin Jones deserves credit, combining to allow just nine total goals over the past five games. Hart’s performance marks a dramatic turnaround after he endured a disastrous 2021 campaign. The 23-year-old has given up just three goals over his past two starts, and will be gunning for a third win in as many career starts against Toronto when he hits the ice on Wednesday.
