Leafs Fan: Make CN Tower Biggest Playoff Goal Light
Toronto is abuzz with the Maple Leafs heading to the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2004 – so much so that one fan has started a petition to turn the CN Tower into the world’s biggest goal light. Scott Booth has a petition circulating that would have the CN Tower light up red (wouldn’t blue make more sense?) every time the Maple Leafs score in the playoffs. He estimates more than 3,000 supporters have signed their names to the list after three days.
“There is no doubt that both The Toronto Maple Leafs and hockey in general are a very important part of the City of Toronto,” Booth writes in the petition. “And to be honest, we’re the biggest fans of hockey in the whole world!”
Booth says the idea came from a recent Budweiser Red Light, which when synced to a particular NHL game light up when a goal is scored. Booth estimates it would take about 50,000 signatures on the petition to get the attention of CN Tower officials.
“Imagine how incredible it would be to see The CN Tower Light up RED every time Toronto scored a goal! IT WOULD BE AMAZING!” he wrote in the petition.
UPDATE: According to the Toronto Star, a plan was already in place to light the CN Tower with blue lights on the evenings of Toronto Maple Leafs playoff games.
Coach Randy Carlyle put his charges through a tough practice early this morning ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Carlyle was very vocal throughout the workout, which is understandable considering the Leafs have dropped two of their last three. With the club assured of a playoff berth, now Carlyle has the task of keeping his squad focused.
Toronto sits fifth in the Eastern Conference and is now looking to finish the regular season on a high note to build momentum heading into the postseason. After Wednesday’s game at Tampa Bay, Toronto visits the Florida Panthers Thursday and then closes out the season with a home game against the Montreal Canadiens.
