Winnipeg Jets vs. Dallas Stars Prediction, NHL Odds
The Stars opened their campaign by sweeping a home-and-home series with the Nashville Predators, capped by a decisive 5-1 victory over Nashville on Saturday night. The Jets hit the road after claiming a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers in their home opener on Friday night, but have work to do to snap a six-game losing streak in Dallas.
The Jets have held largely steady since opening as +122 underdogs on the NHL odds, dipping only slightly to +123, while the Stars are perched as -148 favourites to open their season on a 3-0-0 run for the second time in three seasons. The total has held steady since opening at 6.0, with the UNDER commanding a slim 53 per cent majority of the betting action.
Jets vs. Stars NHL Betting Odds
Monday night’s matchup at American Airlines Center marks the first of three scheduled meetings between these Central Division rivals. The Stars have won three straight over the Jets since dropping a 4-3 decision in Winnipeg early last season, and have dominated in head-to-head action on home ice.
Dallas has limited the Jets to just 2.17 goals per game during their current home win streak, but has seen each of its past three home victories come by just a single goal. Despite that tendency towards low scoring, the OVER has emerged as a steady bet when these teams meet, going 12-4-3 over their past 19 clashes.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets enjoyed the benefit of a standout performance from goaltender Connor Hellebuyck in their season-opening win over the Rangers. Hellebuyck stood tall in the face of a 21-shot second-period onslaught to protect an early 1-0 lead, and turned aside 40 of the 41 shots he faced on the night. Mark Sheifele led the Jets attack, scoring twice while compiling a game-high seven shots.
The challenge now facing the Jets is to build on that momentum in Dallas, where they have enjoyed no success in recent seasons. Indeed, the Jets were a massive disappointment on the road last season, racking up a dismal 16-17-8 record, capped by a season-ending four-game losing streak. Scheifele was among the Jets players to struggle the most on the road last season, with just seven of his 29 goals coming away from MTS Centre. However, he has scored in each of his past three visits to Dallas, and racked up 18 points over his past 11 road dates with the Stars.
Dallas Stars
A steady hand in the crease has also been key to the Stars’ fast start. Dallas took two from the Predators to open their schedule despite being outshot in both contests. Jake Oettinger has been rock solid in net, stopping 60 of 62 shots faced through the first two games, and blanking Preds shooters in the opening frame in both of last week’s meetings. Oettinger has enjoyed lots of goal support, with Dallas jumping out to early multi-goal leads in each of their dates with Nashville.
Mason Marchment looks poised to build on a breakthrough campaign last season. Marchment stormed out of the gate in last week’s season opener, tallying a pair of first-period goals, and adding his third of the season on Saturday night. Both Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson have contributed four points to date. Robertson also enjoyed steady success versus Winnipeg last season, scoring five times in four meetings.
