Winnipeg Jets vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds
The Jets picked up right where they left off after the break with back-to-back wins pushing their streak to 10 games, solidifying their spot as the top dogs in the Central Division. The Senators have now dropped four in a row, losing their spot as a wild-card team in the East. With only 25 games left on their schedule, the Senators need to pull themselves together in a tight playoff race.
Winnipeg is the -135 favourite on the road on the NHL odds, with the game total opening at an even 6 goals. The puck will drop from the Canadian Tire Centre in the nation’s capital at 7:00 PM ET.
Jets vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds
This is the second and final meeting of the season between the Jets and Sens after Winnipeg took a 4-2 win back on home ice back in December. Ottawa jumped ahead 2-0 in that game before the Jets took them for four straight goals in the second half of the game. Winnipeg has dominated this matchup over the past three seasons taking four of their five meetings.
Although the Jets record this season has been amazing, their ability to cover the spread has not. They have failed to do so in each of their past three games putting their record to 31-27 on the year. They have been locked in defensively all season, boasting the best goals-against average at just 2.38 per game. They have many interesting lines on the NHL Futures Board including +1200 for the Stanley Cup and +575 to win the Western Conference.
On their current four-game slide, the Senators have given up at least four in each contest, while combining for only six goals. Their offence has been slow all season scoring just 2.79 goals per game (22nd in the league). They have hit the OVER each of their past seven games, but their record still sits at 21-30-6 on the OVER/UNDER.
Winnipeg Jets
When rolling through your past 10 games, sometimes you just need to find a way to win, which is what the Jets did Monday night versus the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks went up 1-0 in the first period on a power-play goal, then turned to their netminder to bail them out the rest of the way. Vitek Vanacek had a shutout going into the final minute of the game, before Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey sent the game to overtime with a blast from the point. In the extra frame, it was Mark Scheifele’s 32nd of the season that would win the game for the ‘Peg.
Scheifele’s marker was the 329th of his career, putting him as the franchise leader goals, surpassing Ilya Kovalchuk’s record from their days in Atlanta. He is on pace for 45 goals this season which would be a career best.
This season-high 10-game heater has been a full team effort, with four different players registering over a point per game in the stretch. Gabriel Vilardi leads the way with 12 (7G, 5A) with Scheifele (5G, 6A), Kyle Connor (4G, 7A) and Cole Perfetti (4G, 7A) right behind him.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators’ lineup was in shambles when they returned to action hosting the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Ottawa was without captain Brady Tkachuk and top forwards Josh Norris and Shane Pinto, taking a 5-2 loss.
The Habs jumped ahead 2-0 in the first five minutes, but the Sens stormed back with goals from Tim Stutzle (18) and Jake Sanderson (6) to knot it up. The game would not stay tied long as the Canadiens notched one on the powerplay just 19 seconds later and added two more in the second, chasing Linus Ullmark from the net just 31:32 into the game.
Over their four-game skid, Ullmark has started in three games giving up three or more in each contest. They may turn to backup Anton Forsberg on Wednesday Night who was perfect in relief on Saturday, stopping 10 shots.
Coach Travis Green is hopeful to get some bodies back in the lineup versus Winnipeg as Tkachuk took reps on the top line in practice. Norris may also slate back in the lineup, while Pinto will need more time.
