New York Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds
The New York Islanders saw their three-game winning streak get snapped on Sunday by the Seattle Kraken in a 4-1 loss. They are hoping that defeat won’t hold them back too much as they next travel to face the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Vancouver was also on a three-game winning streak before losing back-to-back games to the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames. Which of these two squads will be able to bounce back from their latest loss?
The Islanders are slim favourites to win on the NHL odds.
Islanders vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds
The Islanders are 6-1 in their last seven games against teams from the Pacific Division but are just 1-5 in their last six games played on the road coming into this one. When it comes to the total, the under has cashed in six of their last seven when getting just one day of rest. The road team in the past five meetings between New York and Vancouver has won four of the last five matchups.
Flipping over to the Canucks, they seem to have trouble with Eastern Conference squads. They are 1-6 in their past seven games against teams from the Metropolitan Division. They are also 5-16 in their last 21 games against teams from the Eastern Conference.
New York Islanders
The Islanders are getting goaltender Semyon Varlamov off of the Injured Reserve list for this game but it’s yet to be revealed whether or not he’s going to start. Ilya Sorokin has started the last six games and might need to get himself a breather following a disappointing loss to Seattle. In more injury-related news, skater Cal Clutterbuck was updated as day-to-day on the injury list with an opportunity to get on the ice again for this matchup.
New York has performed well against the Canucks over the past few years. In the last six meetings with the Canucks in Rogers Arena, the Islanders have won four times. The other two losses came outside of regulation, so they seem to have their number. The Canucks are just 7-9-1 at home this season, so they might not have a huge home-ice advantage in this one.
Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver is back home to kick off a quick two-game home stretch starting with the Islanders. They are currently 12th in the Western Conference standings, so while it’s still relatively early in the season, they have work to do if they’re thinking about the playoffs.
Bo Horvat has been leading the offence as he’s third in the league for goals, tied with the veteran Alex Ovechkin at 26. The problem for the Canucks is that they can’t stop opponents’ power plays. And their penalty kill currently ranks dead-last in the league at a measly 67.9 per cent.
They also allow the third-most goals per game overall at 3.81. They need these numbers to turn around in the New Year.
