The Senators and Hurricanes will both playing the second half of a back-to-back on Tuesday night when they meet in Ottawa.  The Sens left with a 4-1 home win over New Jersey on Monday, while Carolina fell 4-3 in overtime in Toronto.

The Hurricanes are -243 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 6.0.

Hurricanes vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

This is the third meeting between the teams this season.  The Senators took a 3-2 decision in regulation on Dec. 2 in Carolina, while the Hurricanes won 3-2 in a shootout on Jan. 27 in Ottawa.  Just under 80 per cent of Sports Interaction bettors are on Carolina for this one, while 60 per cent of action is taking the Over.

The Hurricanes have posted a healthy 15-5-2 record on the road this season and they come into Tuesday’s contest with wins in seven of their last nine games overall.  They’re 23-20 against the spread for the season, with covers in 12 of 22 road games.  The total has gone Over in four of Carolina’s last five road dates.

This hasn’t been a great opponent for Ottawa as they’ve dropped four of their last five home games against the Hurricanes.  They’ve been a decent cover option this season, however, going 23-18 ATS overall and 11-9 ATS at home.  The total has gone Under in each of the Senators’ last eight games.

Carolina Hurricanes

It was a loss for Carolina on Monday, but they salvaged an overtime result to extend their point streak to five games.  It was Carolina’s first trip to Toronto since Feb. 22, 2020, the date of their infamous 6-3 win with emergency backup goalie David Ayres, a local Zamboni driver.  Nino Niederreiter, Tony DeAngelo and Derek Stepan scored for the Hurricanes on Tuesday.  Former Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen stopped 28 of 32 shots in the loss.  The team’s leading scorer, Sebastian Aho, was held off the scoresheet.  Aho has 45 points (19G, 26A) in 40 games.

Backup Antti Raanta will be between the pipes in Ottawa.  Raanta is 6-2-1 on the year, with a 2.21 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.  In nine career games against the Senators, Raanta has posted a 5-4-0 record with a 2.47 GAA and .913 SV.  The strong goaltending duo of Raanta and Andersen (24-6-1, 2.08 GAA, .927 SV) is a major reason why Carolina gives up the least amount of goals in the NHL, averaging just 2.37 goals-against per game.

Ottawa Senators

Despite being outshot 33-24, Ottawa kicked off their four-game homestand with a win against New Jersey on Monday.  Nick Paul, Nick Holden, Adam Gaudette and Connor Brown all found the back of the net for the Senators.  Holden now has goals in back-to-back games.  Brown was returning to the lineup after missing the previous 10 games with a broken jaw.  Dylan Gambrell and Nikita Zaitsev also returned from injury.  Drake Batherson and Josh Norris both failed to record a point.  Batherson leads the team in points (34) and Norris leads the team in goals (18).

Matt Murray, whose struggles have been well-documented, made 32 saves and was the biggest reason for Ottawa’s win.  Anton Forsberg will get the start in net on Tuesday.  Forsberg is 7-8-1 on the year, with a 3.02 GAA and .909 SV.
