NHL Odds and Betting Analysis
The Flyers and the Senators have split their last 10 meetings, although the Flyers have won four of the last five. The last four meetings have ended in a 3-2 scoreline. Seven of the games have ended up going over the posted total and eight of the games had a posted total of 5.5.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers alternated wins and losses for their first four games, then won two in a row, then lost two of their last three. They got handily beaten by a score of 6-2 against Anaheim on Tuesday to wrap up a five-game home stand. To nobody’s surprise, goaltending continues to be an issue. Tuesday’s loss marked the second time this season that Brian Elliott has allowed six goals in a game. He is 4-2-0 this season with a GAA of 3.33 and a save percentage of .876. The Flyers are in winning in spite of him. The Flyers signed Elliott to a two-year deal worth $5.5 million but he hasn’t lived up to that contract as of yet.
A bigger concern going into this game might be the Flyers offence, which has gone cold. After averaging 4.3 goals per game over their first six, they have scored a total of four goals in their last three games.
Ottawa Senators
In reality, the Senators have posted a decent record at 4-1-4 while collecting 12 points along the way. For betting purposes, they haven’t been very good as they’re just 4-5 on the puckline. Home has not been kind to the Senators so far as they’re 1-1-4 at home. The play of Craig Anderson has something to do with that as he is 1-1-3 on the road with a GAA of 3.10 and a save percentage of .899 at home. On the road, he has a record of 2-0-0 with a GAA of 0.96 and a save percentage of .962.
Thursday’s game will be the first half of a back-to-back for the Senators, who will travel to New Jersey on Friday night. The recent concern for them has been momentum as they’ve lost three of their last four overall and have allowed at least three goals in each of their last four. They had given up just 10 goals in total in their first five games. Over has been the way to go with the Senators recently as four of their last six have seen at least six goals. On paper, Thursday looks like it will be another high-scoring affair.
Flyers vs. Senators prediction:
Flyers 5-3
