Calgary’s East Coast swing continues Sunday in Ottawa as they take on the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre.  The Flames were downed 2-1 in overtime in Toronto on Friday, which brings their losing streak to three games.  It’s a quick turnaround for the Sens after taking out Pittsburgh 6-3 at home on Saturday.

The Flames are -199 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 5.5.

Flames vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

These teams are back to only seeing each other twice a year in the regular season after facing off nine times in the temporarily realigned divisions last year.  It was one of the few bright spots for Ottawa’s year, as they won the season series 6-3, although neither team ended up in the playoffs.

After a strong start to the year, Calgary is stumbling and has dropped five of their last six games.  They’re 8-6 against the spread and they’ve been a great cover option on the road, going 6-2 ATS away from the Saddledome.  The total has gone Over in five of the Flames’ eight road games.

Ottawa has been about as bad as advertised this year.  The Senators have now lost six of their last seven games overall and six of their last seven at home.  They’re 7-7 ATS, covering in four of nine home games.  The total has gone Over in four of Ottawa’s last six games.

Calgary Flames

Calgary’s skid continued with their loss in Toronto on Friday.  Oliver Kylington’s second goal of the year was the only puck that found the back of the net for the Flames.  Johnny Gaudreau’s assist gave him the team lead in points.  Gaudreau has 15 points (4G, 11A) in 14 games, one ahead of Elias Lindholm’s mark or 14 points (7G, 7A).  Dan Vladar made 35 saves on 37 shots faced for his second win in three starts this year.  Vladar has had a tough time getting in the net thanks to the stellar play of Jacob Markstrom, who should get the start on Sunday.  Markstrom has a 5-3-3 record.  League-wide among goalies with at least three starts, Markstrom is second in goals-against average (1.81 GAA), fifth in save percentage (.935 SV) and leads in shutouts (4).

Ottawa Senators

Ottawa is riding high after their win on Saturday broke a six-game losing streak.  Drake Batherson, who was questionable to play because of a false positive COVID test on Friday, led the charge with two goals and two assists.  Zach Sanford, Michael Del Zotto, Parker Kelly and Tim Stutzle also found the back of the net.  Batherson leads the team in points (16) and goals (7).  After Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves on 31 shots on Saturday, expect Anton Forsberg to start in net Sunday.  The Sens have eight players in COVID protocols, including starting goalie Matt Murray.  Forsberg has been shaky this season, going 1-2-0 with an ugly 4.80 GAA and .885 SV.
