Calgary Flames vs. New Jersey Devils Prediction, NHL Odds
The Calgary Flames will be looking to win four in a row for the first time in almost two years when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. The Flames have claimed victory in each of the first three dates on their current five-game road trip, but face a Devils squad that has opened their schedule with three victories in four home contests.
The Flames are pegged as slim -105 underdogs to maintain their winning ways when they hit the ice for Tuesday night’s clash at Prudential Center, while the total is pegged at 6.0.
Flames vs. Devils NHL Betting Odds
While the moneyline has remained stable, the Flames have steadily attracted the attention, with 67% of bets getting laid on Calgary. The total has also held steady, since opening at 6.0, with 58% of bets going on the under.
Tuesday’s clash marks the first meeting between these two teams since November 2019. The Flames have earned the win in 12 of 14 head-to-head matchups, including each of the past six. Calgary outgunned New Jersey by a wide 14-6 margin in their past two meetings, both on home ice. However, recent contests at Prudential Center have been much tighter affairs, with the Flames claiming victory by just a single goal in each of their past four visits. Recent clashes between these clubs in New Jersey have also been low scoring, with the under prevailing in each of the past two.
Calgary Flames
Tuesday’s contest marks their third game in four nights, but the Flames have shown no signs of wearing down from a busy early-season schedule. Calgary rolled to a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday, and has outscored opponents by a 12-4 margin during their 3-0-0 streak. Elias Lindholm saw a four-game goal scoring streak come to an end on Monday, but has earned at least a point in each of his five outings. Johnny Gaudreau has also tallied seven assists over his past four outings.
Once again, Jacob Markstrom stood tall, turning aside 28 of 29 shots, and has now surrendered just one total goal in his past two starts. However, with the club playing on back-to-back nights, expect Dan Vladar to get the call on Tuesday. The Flames have struggled in the back half of games played on consecutive nights, winning just one of their past five.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils needed overtime to complete the comeback in a 2-1 win over Buffalo on Saturday. The absence of Jack Hughes has not helped the Devils attack. Hughes potted two goals and an assist before suffering a shoulder injury, and New Jersey has mustered just three total goals in two games since their young star landed on the IR.
The Devils have also been held off the scoresheet in the first two periods of each of their past two outings. That places additional pressure on netminder Scott Wedgewood, who is expected to get the call on Tuesday. Wedgewood was lit up for four goals on 27 shots in last week’s 4-1 loss to Washington, and has now surrendered 26 total goals while getting tagged with the loss in each of his past seven starts.
