Calgary Flames vs. Arizona Coyotes: Odds, Prediction
The Flames desperately need points and can’t afford to get anything less than two against the Arizona Coyotes on Monday. The Coyotes are the team with the fewest points in the Western Conference, although they have shown some signs of life lately.
Flames vs Coyotes Betting Analysis
The Flames have won seven of their last ten meetings with the Coyotes, including both meetings so far this season. They posted a 3-0 shutout in Calgary on November 30th and a 5-2 win in Arizona on February 22nd. Six of the ten meetings have come in under the posted total, which has been 5.5 goals for seven of the games.
Calgary Flames
The Flames are 35-28-10 after a discouraging 4-0 loss at Las Vegas on Sunday. While Vegas is a quality opponent, the Flames were blanked and that’s not the type of effort they want to be seeing these days. They’ve now lost seven of their last 10 games and are stumbling at the absolute worst time.
The main issue is two-fold: the Flames aren’t scoring much and they’re giving up too many goals. In the game of hockey, that’s the ultimate failure. They’ve scored just 20 goals in their last 10 games while giving up 32 themselves. That means they’re losing by an average of 1.2 goals per outing.
The good news is they’re on the road playing the Coyotes, who have a league-low 57 points. They’ve lost two in a row, scoring just three goals in those two losses.
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes are 23-37-11 after a 3-1 loss to Minnesota at home on Saturday. Clayton Keller netted the lone goal for Arizona, while Antti Raanta stopped 30 shots as the Coyotes fell to yet another loss. However, the Coyotes should be encouraged by how they’re playing over the last five weeks or so; since February 12th, Arizona is 10-5-1 and they’re a dangerous spoiler team to be coming up against.
The Coyotes have a lot of problems to work out between now and next year at both ends of the ice as they’re 31st in goals scored and 26th in goals against, but Raanta has been solid in nets. He’s allowed two goals or less in seven of his last nine outings.
Keller leads the team with 20 goals and 32 assists for 52 points as a rookie and he should only get better. The Coyotes are probably still a year (maybe two) away from seriously contending for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. However, they have a lot of good, young, pieces and they’ll be a tough game for the Flames on Monday.
