Calgary Flames

Calgary trailed 3-1 entering the third period on Tuesday, but a three-goal final frame helped the Flames rally back for the win.  Trevor Lewis opened the scoring for Calgary less than two minutes into the game, while Andrew Mangiapane, Johnny Gaudreau and Oliver Kylington scored in the third.

Gaudreau is having a career-year and sits seventh in NHL scoring with 53 points (18G, 35A).  Mangiapane and Matthew Tkachuk are tied for the team lead in goals with 20 apiece.  The Flames peppered Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger with 18 shots in the final period.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 20 of 23 shots in the first two periods against the Stars before being replaced by Dan Vladar to start the third.  Vladar stopped all five shots he faced.  Markstrom has recorded a 16-10-5 record this season with a 2.20 goals-against average and .923 save percentage, but he’s been inconsistent as of late.  The Swede has allowed three or more goals in five of his 10 appearances since the start of January.  Vladar (6-3-1, 2.64 GAA, .911 SV) will likely start in Arizona.

Arizona Coyotes

Alex Galchenyuk scored the lone shootout goal on Tuesday as the ‘Yotes snapped Colorado’s 10-game overall winning streak and 18-game home winning streak.  Galchenyuk also scored his first goal of the season in regulation, while Lawson Crouse added his 11th.  Scott Wedgewood stopped 38 shots in regulation and overtime, before blanking Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and Nazem Kadri in the shootout.

Clayton Keller picked up an assist on the Galchenyuk goal to increase his team lead in points to 36 (16G, 20A).  Scoring has been a big issue for this team as they average a league-worst 2.18 goals per game.  Only Keller (16), Crouse (11) and Travis Boyd (10) have reached double-digit goals this year.

With Wedgewood playing last night, Karel Vejmelka will start on Wednesday.  Vejmelka is 6-17-1 this season with a 3.39 GAA and .902 SV.  He’s lost his last three starts, giving up 15 goals on 91 shots (.835 SV).
