The Flames solidified their grasp on top spot in the Pacific Division standings with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Detroit. The Avalanche sport a league-leading 41-13-5 record, but have lost four of five, capped by Thursday’s 2-0 loss in Carolina.
Colorado is a -151 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 6.5.
Flames vs. Avalanche NHL Betting Odds
The Avalanche’s recent slide has not dimmed their betting prospects. With the support of 56 per cent of sports bettors, the Avs have improved to -151 favourites, while the Flames have dipped to +152 underdogs since opening as a +142 bet. The total has held steady since opening at 6.5. However, the UNDER holds the edge with -120 odds.
Sunday night’s matchup at Ball Arena is the second of three regular season meetings between these clubs, and the Flames’ second visit to Colorado in eight days. Calgary claimed a 4-3 win over the Avalanche last weekend, extending their head-to-head win streak to two games. Each of the past three meetings between these teams, and three of their past four in Colorado, have been settled by just a single goal. The road team has also enjoyed steady success, winning four of their past five matchups. There has also been an uptick in scoring, with these clubs combining to pot at least six total goals in four of five dates, fuelling a 3-1-1 run for the OVER in totals betting.
The Flames have emerged as one of the hottest teams in the NHL while winning 19 of their past 24, including wins in four of their past five contests. The club has surrendered one or fewer goals in three of their past four, with Saturday’s victory representing their 11th shutout of the season. However, the OVER enjoys a 10-2-2 run when Calgary plays on the road. The Flames have won two straight in the back half of games played on consecutive nights, after losing four of their previous six. The Avalanche offence has sputtered at times during a 1-4-0 run, averaging just 2.40 goals per game. The club has also lost three of six on home ice, but has averaged 4.67 goals over their past three at Ball Arena.
Calgary Flames
The Flames are coming off a dominating performance in Saturday’s win, in which they outshot the Red Wings by a wide 43-19 margin. The power play has also been clicking. Three of the team’s seven goals over the past two games have come with the man advantage. Johnny Gaudreau extended his points streak to eight games with an assist on Saturday. He has tallied six goals and 14 points during that eight-game run.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche have been bitten hard by the injury bug. The club has lost team captain Gabriel Landeskog to a knee injury that will keep him out of the lineup indefinitely. Rearguard Sam Girard is also expected to be on the shelf for the next month after suffering a lower body injury. Even with a nagging knee injury, Landeskog has racked up 59 points in 51 games this season. Girard has been a workhorse on the Colorado blue line, averaging 21:44 of ice time.
