Anaheim Ducks vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds
Anaheim opened their four-game Eastern Conference road swing in Montreal on Monday night, falling 3-2 in a shootout. The Senators will be wrapping up their four-game homestand, looking to bounce back after a 4-2 loss versus the New York Islanders.
The Ducks have been solid on the road this season, posting a 5-3-3 record. Ottawa plays its best hockey at home, 8-6-1.
The NHL odds have Ottawa as a heavy -250 favourite to win at home, with the total set at 6.0 goals. Puck drop from Canadian Tire Centre is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Ducks vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds
While both of these teams have not played in the postseason in almost a decade, the Ducks have still dominated this matchup, winning seven of their last 10 meetings. They played earlier this month when the Ducks took a 4-3 shootout win on home ice on December 1. Frank Vatrano had a three-point night (2G, 1A) for Anaheim and Sens captain Brady Tkachuk had two goals.
Anaheim added to their impressive record against the spread in Monday’s loss, improving to 18-8. They have covered in eight of their past 10 games, posting a 4-4-2 record in that stretch. Their inability to put the puck in the net is what is holding the team back. They rank third-last in goals per game (2.42), while their goaltenders have played pretty solid, leading them to a 7-17-2 line on the OVER/UNDER.
Throughout their current four-game homestand, the Sens have tightened things up defensively, holding opponents to a combined six goals in three games. They have not hit the OVER in any of their past four games and sit 12-12-3 in that category this season. Ottawa’s record ATS has taken a beating over their past 10 games, as they have only managed to cover the spread once.
Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks opened their road trip in Montreal on Monday, facing the Canadiens who sit last in the Atlantic Division. After the Habs opened the scoring, Troy Terry answered with his team-leading seventh of the season, sending it to the second period tied up. Terry notched his second of the night early in the second, giving Anaheim their first lead in seven periods of play. The Canadiens answered quickly in the second and a scoreless third sent them to a shootout where they could not beat the Montreal goalie, losing 3-2.
If Anaheim is going to shake this three-game skid, it needs to get a spark offensively. They have been held to two goals or fewer in five of their past seven games. The goaltending has been very solid, with goalies John Gibson and Lukas Dostal both boasting a save percentage of .914 or higher.
Ottawa Senators
After back-to-back wins, the Senators were looking to separate themselves from the log jam at the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings. When the New York Islanders came to town on Sunday, they ran out of luck. After going up 1-0 early, Ottawa’s horrible penalty-killing unit gave up a goal which led to a second goal against, putting them down by one headed to the second.
Luckily the Sens’ power play has been solid this season and it scored the lone goal of the second period.
The PK failed the Senators again in the third, giving up another goal, before an Isles empty netter sealed the deal for New York, 4-2.
Ottawa held the Islanders to only 13 shots in the game, but they could not beat the opposing goalie.
