NHL Odds and Betting Analysis
It’s hard to believe, but his will be the 87th time these two franchises have met in the NHL. The Hurricanes hold the edge, with a 41-32-4-9 record. More recently, the two teams have split the last eight games dating back to 2014. The Hurricanes are also 3-7 in their last 10 games against Central division opponents.
Carolina Hurricanes
This is only the third game of the season for the Carolina Hurricanes, the lowest amount of games played by an NHL team this year. It’s their first road game of the season, with stops in Edmonton, Calgary, and Dallas, before returning home on Oct. 24. Last season the Hurricanes were a dismal 13-19-9 away from the PNC Arena. Expect goaltender Scott Darling to make his third straight start. Darling is no stranger to the Winnipeg Jets, having faced them as a member of the Central Division rival Chicago Blackhawks the last three seasons. Check an eye on defenceman Jaccob Slavin. The 23-year-old is entering his third season in the NHL and after signing a seven-year extension worth $37.1 million in the offseason, expectations are high that this is the guy that will lead the Hurricanes back to the postseason.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets enter this game on a modest two-game winning streak, with wins in Edmonton (5-2) and Vancouver (4-2), and are now 2-2 on the season. The Jets have enjoyed success in the offensive zone, averaging 3.5 goals per game, good enough for ninth overall. Mark Scheifele leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists, while Nik Ehlers has buried four goals in his last two games. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has started the last two games (both victories) and has stopped 67 of 71 shots to date. Don’t be surprised to see coach Paul Maurice play his hot hand and starts Hellebuyck on Saturday night, although at some point soon the team will have to go back to Steve Mason, who was brought in to be the starter.
