Vancouver Canucks vs. Philadelphia Flyers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Canucks have been impressive early in the season, upsetting the Edmonton Oilers in back-to-back games as a part of a season-opening home-and-home series. The Flyers split their season-opening two-game road trip, most recently taking a 5-2 loss in Ottawa.
Puck drop from Wells Fargo Center in Philly is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Canucks vs. Flyers NHL Betting Odds
This meeting will be the first of only a pair of games between these squads this season. The teams have split every season series one game apiece since the 2017-18 campaign. They have hit the UNDER in seven of their past nine meetings. Flyers goalie Carter Hart has been excellent in games versus Vancouver, going 3-1-2 while posting a 2.30 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.
As the underdog in both wins, Vancouver has started the campaign 2-0 against the spread. The offence is clicking early on, averaging six goals a game which has helped both games hit Over the total goals set at 6.5. On the Flyers’ side of things, they were also the underdog in both games, covering the spread once in their opening road trip. They are also 1-1 on the Over/Under so far while scoring six goals and giving up seven.
Vancouver Canucks
While fans expected a step forward from the Canucks this season, most would not have picked them to beat Conor McDavid and company in back-to-back games to open the season.
That being said, they were certainly not the better team on Saturday night, when they beat the Oilers 4-3 despite being outshot 40-16. The newest members of the team made a good impression, as goalie Casey DeSmith turned away 37 shots and Sam Lafferty scored the game-winning goal in the third period.
Thatcher Demko was the backup on Saturday after leaving the season opener early due to an illness. A lack of a roster space forced the Canucks to leave Demko on the bench as opposed to the night off completely. If he feels better, expect him to get the nod for Tuesday night’s matchup.
Philadelphia Flyers
After defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets in their season opener, Philadelphia dropped their Saturday night matchup in Ottawa by a score of 5-2. Special teams were a huge factor in the game as the Sens scored on three of five power plays, while the Flyers scored just once on their six chances with the man advantage.
Head coach John Tortorella admitted his team was outplayed in all aspects of the game and the stats would prove his point. His team got beat in shots (21-31), face-offs (23-37) and even hits (16-19).
Travis Konecny has gotten off to a solid start of the season. After scoring twice versus Columbus, Konecny added a goal and an assist against the Sens, bringing his total to three goals and one assist.
After missing the entire season last year, Sean Couturier returned and picked up an assist over the first two games. His availability for Tuesday is up in the air though, as he was held out of Monday’s practice with an undisclosed injury.
