The Canadiens wrap up a brief two-game Western road trip after rolling to a 5-3 victory in Utah on Tuesday that leaves them trailing Columbus by just two points in the race for the second wild card in the Wast. The Stars returning home after wrapping up a five-game road trip with a decisive 4-1 win in Toronto on Tuesday night. The Stars have now claimed the victory in eight of nine outings including three straight home victories.

The Jets hot the ice at Canada Life Centre perched as -160 home favourites on the Tuesday NHL odds. The Canucks trail as +130 underdogs and the total is pegged at just 5.5.

Thursday night’s matchup at American Airlines Center marks the second meeting between these teams in just five days. The Stars skated to a narrow 2-1 shootout victory in Montreal on Saturday, extending their recent domination of the Habs that has produced seven wins in nine clashes since the start of 2019.

The Stars have effectively shut down Montreal shooters in their most recent matchups, allowing just 11 total goals over their past five dates, but have mustered just eight total goals scored in their past three tilts with the Canadiens including a 4-3 loss when the Habs last visited Dallas in January 2024.

With wins in 10 of their past 13 games, the Canadiens arrive in Dallas as one of the hottest teams in the NHL. The club has limited opposing shooters to two or fewer goals eight times over that stretch, which features victories in three of four road dates with Western Conference opponents.

The Stars have enjoyed a torrid start to the New Year, going 8-1-0 in nine games since December 29. Dallas shooters have regularly filled the net during their current surge, potting an average of 3.67 goals per game despite scoring just two goals in two of their past three outings.

Montreal Canadiens

Lane Hutson continued his meteoric rise with another stellar performance on Tuesday night, setting up three goals in the club’s 5-3 win. Overall, the 20-year-old rookie rearguard has potted one goal and eight helpers during his current five-game points streak and continues to lead all NHL rookies in scoring with 35 points.

Kirby Dach led the charge with two goals on Tuesday, but the former third overall pick in the NHL Draft has continued to produce sporadically, cracking the scoresheet in just three of six January contests to date and has failed to pick up points in consecutive games since late October.

Dallas Stars

The Stars are also enjoying the benefit of a rookie breakthrough. Logan Stankoven is coming off his best outing of the season, a two-goal, one-assist performance that lifted the Satrs to their 4-1 win over the Leafs on Tuesday. Stankoven has now picked up five points in his past four games but the 21-year-old has struggled on home ice, where he has recorded just one total point in his past 10 appearances.

Veteran forward Matt Duchene also enjoyed a much-needed big night in Toronto, scoring once and adding two assists to snap a three-game pointless streak and extend his lead in team scoring. Duchene has also picked up two points in each of his past two home games, snapping a five-game drought at American Airlines Center.
