St. Louis Blues vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction, NHL Odds
The Toronto Maple Leafs look to avoid losing six in a row for the first time in six years when they host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night in NHL betting action at Scotiabank Arena.
The Maple Leafs’ early-season struggles continued with Saturday’s 3-2 loss in Chicago, which leaves them deadlocked with the Buffalo Sabres in last place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Blues have not fared much better, falling to defeat in 11 of their past 14 contests, capped by Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the visiting Vegas Golden Knights.
The Maple Leafs maintain a slim edge on Tuesday’s NHL odds, where they are perched as -125 favourites. The Blues trail as +105 underdogs and the total is pegged at 6.0.
Blues vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds
The Blues swept last season’s two-game series with the Maple Leafs, posting a pair of decisive victories including a 5-1 victory in Toronto early in the campaign. That put the brakes on the Leafs’ lengthy stretch of dominance in head-to-head action, with wins in five of their previous seven meetings.
Each of the past four dates between these clubs has been settled by a multi-goal margin, with six total goals getting scored in each of the past three. However, the UNDER still holds a 2-0-2 edge in totals betting- over that stretch.
In the wake of Saturday’s loss, the Leafs saw their record drop to 8-9-2, and the club has faded on the NHL futures to a -130 bet to miss the playoffs and a rapidly lengthening +2880 bet to win the Stanley Cup.
Toronto has surrendered 4.40 goals per game during its current five-game swoon, and has surrendered at least three goals 17 of 19 games to date, leaving them trailing only St. Louis with a dismal 3.79 team goals against average.
Since posting consecutive road wins over Calgary and Edmonton on the first weekend of the season, it has been all downhill for the Blues, who have lost four of five on the road since while giving up 4.20 goals per game, and have seen the OVER go 5-2 on the road this season.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues put up little resistance in Saturday’s loss to Vegas and have now allowed 10 total goals during a two-game losing streak that has sparked conversation about a potential midseason overhaul in St. Louis. Through the club’s first 19 games, Jordan Kyrou is the only Blues skater to record more than five goals. However, he has cooled off in November, scoring just twice and adding a helper through seven games.
Jimmy Snuggerud has impressed in his NHL debut. The prized rookie has recorded a respectable five goals and 11 points including a goal and two assists over the past two games. However, Snuggerud has failed to crack the scoresheet in four straight road dates.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The injuries keep piling up for the Maple Leafs, who are already missing captain Auston Matthews and Scott Laughton, and will be without forward Nicolas Roy and rearguard Brandon Carlo on Tuesday night.
A consistent effort has also been missing from this club, which mustered just five shots on goal in the second period on Saturday night and let victory slip away while surrendering two third-period goals.
The Leafs could use bigger contributions from their biggest stars at both ends of the ice. Matthew Knies has failed to score in five games and William Nylander saw his goal drought extend to three games with Saturday’s loss.
John Tavares has maintained his pace, scoring four goals and adding two assists during the club’s swoon, and has turned in multi-point performances in eight of 13 home appearances.
