St. Louis Blues vs. Winnipeg Jets Game 2 Prediction, NHL Odds
The Jets opened as -190 home favourites on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5 goals.
Blues vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds
With Winnipeg winning Game 1 of this series, 5-3 at home on Saturday, it is now -500 on the series line (was -180 entering) with St. Louis at +375 (was +155). While many teams have rallied from down 2-0 in a Stanley Cup playoff series, I give the Blues almost no shot of beating sure-fire Vezina Trophy and likely Hart Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck four times over five potential games to advance should they lose Game 2 as well.
The Jets in five games is the current +240 favourite, and I’d likely lean in six at +340 – that the series ends in six games is +240 with five the +220 leader. The over-under is 5.5 games with the over at -125 and I’d recommend that. That one game of the series goes to overtime remains the favourite at +135 with none at +200. I expect at least one. That there are no shutouts in the series is -125 with one at +170.
On the updated odds to win the Western Conference, Colorado is the +250 leader after its impressive win at sinking Dallas in Game 1, with Winnipeg the +360 second-favourite. St. Louis is the +3000 longshot. The winner of this series faces the Avalanche-Stars winner.
St. Louis Blues
If you would have told a Blues fan that their team would score three goals in Game 1, they probably would have felt good about their chances, but Richmond Hill native Jordan Binnington wasn’t particularly sharp in net in the 5-3 loss, stopping 21 of 25 shots – the fifth goal was on an empty-net. Blues leading scorer Robert Thomas was in some question for Game 1 with an injury but played and scored the game’s first goal. The Blues opened the scoring on the road 22 times this season, which tied for the fifth most among all teams. Only the Devils (24), Flyers (23), Avalanche (23) and Canucks (23) did it more often.
Oskar Sundqvist and Jordan Kryou also scored in Game 1. The Blues were 2-for-3 on the power play but only managed 17 total shots on goal. St. Louis now has a 29.5 percentage on the power play since coming out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break, which is the third-best mark among all NHL teams. The Blues are 2-4 in their past six road games.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets trailed Game 1 by a count of 3-2 entering the third, but Alex Iafallo tied it at 9:18 and Kyle Connor scored the eventual winner at 18:24. Adam Lowry added an empty-netter at 19:07 to break the hearts of Blues backers who took +1.5. Connor’s marker was his fourth career game-winning goal in the postseason to tie Paul Stastny for the most in Jets/Thrashers history. He also factored on 26 game-winning goals in the regular season, which was the most among all players in the league. Connor’s score was the latest go-ahead goal in Jets/Thrashers playoff history. He also had two assists and was the No. 1 star.
Mark Scheifele and Jaret Anderson-Dolan had first-period goals for Winnipeg, which won its fifth playoff game all-time by overcoming a deficit in the third period and first since the 2021 first round vs. Edmonton. Scott Arniel became the second coach to win in his playoff debut with the Jets/Thrashers franchise, joining Rick Bowness. Connor Hellebuyck wasn’t his usual dominant self but had to face only 17 shots. He is now on a personal five-game winning streak. The Jets are 7-1 in their past eight at home vs. St. Louis.
