There will be plenty of superstar talent on the ice when Canada opens the 4 Nations Face-Off against Sweden at the Bell Centre on Wednesday night.
Canadian superstars like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar have dominated the NHL for years, but the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off will be their first shot at international best-on-best competition.
One player who is no stranger to suiting up for Team Canada, is captain Sidney Crosby. It’s been over 10 years since Crosby last wore the Maple Leaf, but the desire to represent his home country is clearly as strong as ever.
There was some fear Crosby wouldn’t be able to play in the tournament after missing Pittsburgh’s last two games before the break due to an upper-body injury. Luckily for Canada, Crosby will be in the lineup when the tournament opens and he’ll be a major part of the team while playing on a line with MacKinnon and Mark Stone.

Team Canada

It’s no surprise to see Crosby named captain of the team, while Makar and Connor McDavid will be alternates.
The main question mark heading into the tournament was who would be named the starting goalie between Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill and Sam Montembeault. Binnington was announced as the starter on Tuesday, with head coach Jon Cooper saying he doesn’t plan to rotate the goalies.
Canada is much luckier than Finland in the injury department. Team Canada only had to replace one player due to injury as Drew Doughty will fill in for Alex Pietrangelo. Boasting plenty of international experience, Doughty would have been a lock when the team was first announced, but he was recovering from a broken ankle.
