2026 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs: Field set with Canadiens, Senators, Oilers lone Canadian clubs to clinch
The field for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs is officially set.
There will be no last-minute postseason-clinching scenarios this year as the final few days of the regular season will be exclusively reserved for playoff seeding.
One of the biggest stories this season is the Buffalo Sabres not only ending a 14-year playoff drought, but winning the Atlantic Division. That sets up a locked in matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, with home ice still to be determined.
Montreal is one of just three Canadian clubs to reach the postseason this year. The Habs are playing spring hockey for the second straight year, as are the Ottawa Senators, who are still waiting to find out their first-round opponent.
The Edmonton Oilers round out the Canadian playoff teams as they look to make a run at a third straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton is also waiting on their opponent, with the Oilers possibly finishing anywhere from first in the Pacific Division to falling into a wild card spot.
With the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs set to begin on Saturday, here’s the complete 16-team field.
