Toronto Maple Leafs Trades and Rumours

GM Kyle Dubas was all-in last year and he’s at it again in 2022, picking up one of the most valuable trade targets in veteran defenceman Mark Giordano.  The Leafs don’t have much wiggle room to make multiple big splashes like Florida has done because of the salary cap, but they’ve proven they can get creative to make deals work.  Toronto has publicly claimed they’re unwilling to move their first-round pick for a rental player, but with their cap limitations and a desire to go far this year, it wouldn’t be shocking to see that first-round pick eventually move.  Expect them to target a gritty depth forward.  Toronto would love to improve their goaltending, but the only upgrade available would be Marc-Andre Fleury and that will be a tough deal to swing.

Calgary Flames Trades and Rumours

Calgary has already done most of the heavy lifting, shoring up their offence with the additions of Tyler Toffoli and Calle Jarnkrok, so it’s tough to see them doing anything else major.  Still, the Flames have been one of the Western Conference’s best teams this season and they’re a legit Stanley Cup contender.  There are rumours Sean Monahan is available for the right price, but it would likely need to be a blockbuster trade for it to improve Calgary’s roster.

Edmonton Oilers Trades and Rumours

Publicly, Edmonton has announced they are not willing to move a top pick or prospect, but like Toronto, that could be a negotiating tactic.  The Oilers desperately need goaltending help and they have a history of working with Chicago, so Fleury is a natural target.  Whether Fleury is willing to waive his no move clause and what Edmonton is willing to give up for him remains a mystery, however.  At the very least, you can bank on the Oilers targeting a defenceman.

Winnipeg Jets Trades and Rumours

Winnipeg is in a very award position.  They’re not technically out of the playoffs, but it will be very difficult to climb back into the race at this point.  The biggest question is whether this team is a buyer or a seller?  The Jets generally don’t make a major splash at the deadline, but Andrew Copp and Paul Stastny have been rumoured to be available, so there could be a tempting “hockey trade” out there.

Vancouver Canucks Trades and Rumours

Vancouver is another team that needed to decide if they were a buyer or seller, but moving Travis Hamonic out of town likely answers that question.  At this point it depends if the team wants to do a quick roster regroup in the hopes of being competitive in the next one or two years, or burn it all to the ground and start a complete rebuild.  J.T. Miller is their most valuable asset, but the feeling is the only untouchables on this roster are Thatcher Demko and Elias Pettersson.

Montreal Canadiens Trades and Rumours

It’s a fire sale in Montreal as they’ve let it be known they are open for business.  The Habs have already moved on from Toffoli and it looks like Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki are the only untouchables on the roster.  It’s a complete rebuild in Montreal, with Jeff Petry, Brendan Gallagher, Josh Anderson, Jonathan Drouin among the many names available.

Ottawa Senators Trades and Rumours

It’s pretty clear Nick Paul is headed out of town as he’s been held out of Ottawa’s lineup to avoid a potential injury.  The Sens believe they have the right building blocks in place with Thomas Chabot, Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle, so expect them to try and move on from contracts like Chris Tierney or Tyler Ennis in an effort to provide more depth and boost a young core.
