2022 NHL All-Star Skills Competition Odds, Predictions

The real intrigue in the 2022 NHL All-Star Skills Competition is that along with classic events like hardest shot or fastest skater, there are two new Vegas inspired challenges, the Fountain Face-Off and 21 in ’22.  Fountain Face-Off will see players actually travel by boat to a rink set up in the middle of the Fountains of Bellagio in a target shooting competition.  For 21 in ’22, shooters will face a full deck of oversized cards and essentially play blackjack by firing pucks at the cards and trying to get as close to 21 as possible without going over.

Make sure to check out Sports Interaction’s NHL props page for a full list of skills competition odds and the NHL futures board for the all-star game odds.

Hardest Shot

The Pick: Adam Pelech.

Zdeno Chara and Shea Weber have owned this event for the last 15 years, so this will be a changing of the guard.  While Victor Hedman is tempting to take, Pelech provides better value and I like his chances as much as Hedman’s.

Fastest Skater

The Pick: Connor McDavid.

Don’t sleep on Cale Makar or Dylan Larkin in this one, but if I ever bet against McDavid, you’ll know something is wrong.  McDavid is the best hockey player in the world and a large part of that is his ridiculous speed.  Just ask any NHL defenceman unfortunate enough to defend him on the rush.  We’re looking at you, Morgan Reilly.

Breakaway Challenge

The Pick: Trevor Zegras.

Did you think we’d take anyone else?  Kirill Kaprizov can bury the puck in back of the net, but no one has more flair and flash than the rookie in Anaheim.  Zegras is participating as a “special guest” of the NHL.  He wasn’t actually voted into All-Star Weekend, so it should help to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

21 in ’22

The Pick: Auston Matthews.

No one on this list is as cool, calm and collected of a shooter as Matthews.  Currently playing in front of no fans at home in Toronto, the stage is set for Matthews to make a big splash in Vegas.

Accuracy Shooting

The Pick: Leon Draisaitl.

Nothing can rattle an NHL all-star like the accuracy shooting, so I’m taking the safe bet in this one.  Give me Draisaitl for the accuracy shooting, even if he is a bit ‘pissy’ at the moment.

Save Streak

The Pick: Juuse Saros.

I’m high on Saros for this one.  There’s a Vezina Trophy in Saros’ future and I think he’ll show the NHL why this weekend.

Fountain Face-Off

The Pick: Jonathan Huberdeau.

How can you not pick the NHL’s leading scorer who plays on the NHL’s top team?  Huberdeau is criminally underrated, but he’ll get his time to shine in this event.
