Buyers and Sellers

Expected Buyers

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Buffalo Bills
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Detroit Lions
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Philadelphia Eagles

Expected Sellers

  • Tennessee Titans
  • New England Patriots
  • Denver Broncos

That still leaves a lot of teams in the middle of the pack. Teams like the Cowboys, Chargers and Raiders could elect to jump into the buyers market, while teams like the Jets, Giants and Rams could be sellers.

Latest rumours

AFC East

The New York Jets seem to be willing to trade edge rusher Carl Lawson, who has made it clear he is not happy with his role on the team. Running back Dalvin Cook is also unhappy with his role on the team and could be made available at the deadline.

Miami’s offence is playing at a blistering pace this season, but the word is they are still looking to add another running back. If the Dolphins don’t believe they can make a trade happen, they could look at free agent options such as Leonard Fournette, J.D. McKissic or Caleb Huntley.

While Buffalo will mostly be buyers at the deadline, there has been interest in Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam. Buffalo appears ready to move on from the 2022 first-round draft pick as he has been benched multiple times this season and has seen very limited action.

AFC North

Baltimore is believed to be targeting an upgrade on offence, particularly for added depth for their run-game. The Ravens could make a big splash if they target Tennessee’s Derrick Henry or the Jets’ Dalvin Cook.

The Bengals are looking more and more like a contender, but their history of quiet trade deadlines is expected to continue this year. Cincinnati’s biggest need is at the tight end position, but they do have an in-house option if they decide to promote Tanner Hudson from the practice squad.

AFC South

Titans running back Derrick Henry is another big name being thrown around. It’s believed that despite telling Henry he won’t be traded, Tennessee will continue to listen to offers on the two-time rushing champion and other players on the roster. The 29-year-old has 526 rushing yards (fifth in the NFL) and three TDs this season. The Titans are still in the playoff hunt, so teams will likely need to make a big offer to land Tennessee’s best running back.

Sticking with the Titans, there are rumours DeAndre Hopkins could be targeted by Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes needs more experienced receivers and Hopkins fits the bill. Hopkins has finished with well over 100 receiving yards in two of his last three games, including a 128-yard, three-TD performance against Atlanta in Week 8.

AFC West

Outside of a surprise Week 8 win against Kansas City, the Denver Broncos have been a train wreck this season, so it’s widely expected they will be big sellers ahead of the trade deadline. Receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton as well as safety Justin Simmons and corner back Patrick Surtain II are just some of the names drawing interest. Keep in mind, it’s not a full fire sale as Denver isn’t willing to give players away for nothing. If Surtain is traded, however, it could be the biggest deal of the day.

There’s interest in the league for receiver Davante Adams and defensive end Maxx Crosby, but the Raiders have no intent to moving either superstar. Las Vegas has, however, been fielding trade calls about receiver Hunter Renfrow for weeks. Like Hopkins, Renfrow could be a solution for Kansas City.

NFC East

Washington has had inquiries about 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young and fellow edge rusher Montez Sweat. After the Commanders’ loss against Philadelphia on Sunday, it’s almost certain Young or Sweat will be moved. Defensive back Kendall Fuller could also be shipped out.

The Eagles already traded for safety Kevin Byard, but they’re likely not done. Philadelphia is reportedly looking for a linebacker, with Indianapolis’ Zaire Franklin, Houston’s Blake Cashman and Carolina’s Jeremy Chin prime options.

Dallas’ biggest concern at the moment is the uncertainty of the offensive line after injuries to Tyron Smith and Chuma Edoga. The Cowboys are expected to target a left tackle.

NFC North

There’s big interest in Minnesota’s Danielle Hunter, who currently leads the NFL with 10 sacks. It was thought it would take a massive offer to land Hunter, but with Cousins’ season-ending Achilles injury, the Vikings could be more inclined to listen to proposals.

Arizona wideout Marquise Brown and Carolina edge rusher Brian Burns have both been linked to Detroit. The Lions could get even more aggressive and go for Denver cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

NFC South

Carolina considers defensive lineman Derrick Brown a building block for the future, so he’s considered off-limits. Instead, the Panthers are thought to be willing to move cornerback Donte Jackson and receiver Terrace Marshall.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still in the NFC South race, but Mike Evans is an attractive trade piece for a lot of teams. Evans, who is on pace for a 10th straight 1,000-yard season, would cost a fortune, but he’s a big, physical receiver who would fit great on a team like Detroit or Kansas City.

NFC West

There has been a lot of speculation about Arizona’s Kyler Murray, but the Cardinals are reportedly telling teams they are not interested in moving on from the 26-year-old quarterback. Murray, who was a full participant at practice last week, hasn’t played since tearing his ACL last season.

Seattle jumped in with both feet ahead of the deadline, acquiring defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the Giants for a pair of draft picks. In eight games this season, Williams has recorded 1.5 sacks, 21 combined tackles, five quarterback hits, one tackle for loss and a pass defended.
