NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Intra-conference meetings don’t happen often, but for what it’s worth the Eagles have won 3 in a row against the Jaguars. Even the most recent 2018 versions of these two franchises looked measurably different from today.
The Jaguars feel like a completely new squad in 2022, including their results ATS. 2021 saw them finish 5-12, which made sense given their abysmal 2-14 actual win-loss record. 2022 has seen them begin 2-1 ATS, and were it not for a late TD by Washington in week 1…
The Eagles posted a record of 7-8-1 ATS in 2021. Not terrible but also nothing to write home about. To be fair they squeaked into the Wild Card as the lowest seed in the NFC. So far in 2022 they’re 2-1 ATS and would be 3-0 were it not for a valiant comeback effort by the Lions in Week 1.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Pundits declared the 24-0 Week 2 victory over the Colts a coming-out party of sorts for the Jaguars. Well, they hadn’t seen anything yet!
Week 3’s visit to Los Angeles to play the Chargers showed that when Doug Pederson’s men play to their full potential, great things can happen. For Jacksonville to win was itself a surprise given the media hoopla surrounding their LA-based opponents. For the Jaguars to thump the Chargers 38-10, showing no mercy whatsoever on either side of the ball was the real shocker. QB Lawrence looked good, RB James Robinson cashed in with 100 yards and a touchdown, WRs Zay Jones and Christian Kirk are turning out to be great signings, and the defence is making 3rd down stops and causing turnovers. Who knows if they can keep it up all year? For now, the Jaguars are legitimately interesting.

Philadelphia Eagles
Like this weekend’s visitors, through 3 contests Philly has improved since last year. The major difference is that the 2021 Eagles were far superior to the 2021 Jaguars. Nick Sirianni’s unit has gone from a frisky Wild Card team that got by with a devastating running attack to arguably a top 3 NFL team. The season is early, but they look fantastic. As if handling WR DeVonta Smith wasn’t headache-inducing enough for secondaries, A. J. Brown is fitting in nicely this year. The passing game is so good so far in 2022 that it feels like RB Miles Sanders is getting overshadowed (he wasn’t great at Washington in Week 3). According to ESPN’s QBR ranking, Jalen Hurts is the 5th best QB in the league. He’s also top 5 in yards completed, average yards per completion, and yards per game.
To make matters worse for opponents, Philadelphia’s defence has come to play too. They’ve allowed their two most recent foes, the Vikings and Commanders, to accomplish almost nothing.
