Bengals vs. Cowboys Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The reigning AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in crushing overtime fashion. Their offense look completely out of sorts, missing several game-winning kicks.
While they had it bad, the Dallas Cowboys had it worse. Dallas looked terrible in their 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and later found out that they’ll be without quarterback Dak Prescott for six-to-eight weeks.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Bengals failed to cover in Week 1 but that was their first time in nine games that they’ve missed on the spread. They have done a good job at rebounding under Zac Taylor as they’re 7-2 ATS in their last nine after a straight up loss.
Dallas has performed well against teams with a losing record but that has been when they were in a stronger position than they are now. They’ve covered in five straight when facing a team that is below .500 on the season. Under has been a good bet for them recently as it’s cashed in 10 of their last 13 games overall.
Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow and the rest of this offense did not look good against the Steelers in the season opener. Burrow was sacked a whopping seven times while tossing four interceptions and adding in a fumble. Granted, he did throw a regulation-ending touchdown pass to tie the game but the Bengals missed the extra point, which took the game into overtime.
It wasn’t just their lackluster offense that got them into trouble for this game. Their pass rush was essentially non-existent against Mitchell Trubisky. Cincinnati registered just one sack with limited pressure throughout the night.
The Bengals are in a different role this year as they’re expected to win games like this. This was a sloppy, undisciplined effort. They dominated time of possession 43:43 to 26:17, but were -5 on turnovers, missed several kicks and gave up a pick-six. They’re lucky they only lost by three.
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas looked awful against Tampa Bay even when they had Prescott. They couldn’t move the ball or put up any points. The defense really only came up for stops when the Bucs made it into the red zone. To make all of this worse, Prescott suffered a hand injury in the fourth quarter, which now requires surgery that will keep him out for the foreseeable future.
One thing that was unbelievably clear was the lack of weapons in the passing game. Michael Gallup is still recovering from injury and couldn’t make it onto the field, while Amari Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the offseason and Cedrick Wilson signed elsewhere. With those three off the roster, the Buccaneers just locked in on CeeDee Lamb. Lamb had one catch for 16 yards in total.
Now the Cowboys will look to a backup quarterback to guide what has quickly become a feeble offense. They look like they’re in trouble.
