The Pistons saw their early-season woes continue with Thursday’s 136-112 loss to the visiting Atlanta Hawks, and have now fallen to defeat by a 24-point margin twice during their current slide. The Warriors travel to the Motor City after opening their current five-game road trip with a 120-113 overtime loss in Charlotte on Saturday night. With that that defeat, the Warriors remain winless on the road this season, but have won seven of their past nine in the back half of games played on back-to-back nights.

The Warriors have held steady since opening as 8-point favourites, while the total has dipped slightly to 230 since opening as high as 231.

Warriors vs. Pistons NBA Betting Odds

Sunday evening’s matchup at Little Caesars Arena marks the first of two scheduled meetings between these teams this season. The Warriors earned wins in both of last season’s dates with the Pistons, extending their win streak in head-to-head play to four games. GSW has also won four of five in Detroit, but has seen two of the team’s past three road dates with the Pistons settled by four or fewer points. That has contributed to the Warriors’ middling 2-4 against the spread over their past six contests in Detroit. With the Pistons scoring 102 or fewer points in three of four dates with Golden State, the UNDER is currently on a 3-1-0 run in totals betting. Overall, the Pistons’ struggles on home court date back to last season, with the club winning just three of 12 since early March, while going 5-4 against the spread.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors have alternated between wins and losses during an uneven 3-3 start. Containing opposing shooters has been a particular challenge in the early, with the Dubs surrendering 120 or more points in four of their past five outings, and in each of their two road games to date. Those struggles have dumped the Warriors to 26th overall in the league with 121 points per game allowed to date. That marks a huge drop for a club that sported the league’s third-ranked defence last season. The club has been particularly slow out of the gate in the early going, surrendering and average of 35.4 first-quarter points over their past five contests. While the defence lags, Stephen Curry has started the campaign in mid-season form, tallying 31 or more points in five of six outings to date, capped by a 31-point, 11-rebound performance in Saturday’s loss to the Hornets.

Detroit Pistons

Things went from bad to worse for the Pistons in Friday’s lopsided loss to Atlanta. While Detroit managed to keep things close before halftime by scoring 38 points in the second quarter, they wilted after recess in the face of a relentless Hawks onslaught, as Atlanta converted 56.7% of field goal attempts and 41.4% of three-pointers. Conversely, the Pistons struggles to find the mark continued, hitting just 43.0% of field goals, and now rank 29th in the league in three-point accuracy after hitting just 21.9% on Saturday.  One particular bright spot for Detroit has been the continued steady play of Cade Cunningham. The first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is coming off a career-high 35-point performance in Friday’s loss, and has averaged 25.5 points over his past four outings.
