The Utah Jazz have exceeded expectations all season in large part because individual players continuing to step up and provide more than expected to contributions. That was the case again on Wednesday night when an outstanding performance from Joe Ingles helped Utah steal Game 2 of its second round series against the Houston Rockets. Ingles led the Jazz with a career-high 27 points in a 116-108 win over Houston to even the best-of-seven series at 1-1. Now Utah returns home with a chance to take a series lead on its home floor on Friday night.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Utah has certainly been excellent at home of late with a 4-1 record against the spread over their last five contests as the host side. Additionally, the Jazz are 6-2 in their last eight after scoring at least 100 points in their previous game. With the offense clicking, Utah can make this a very difficult series for the Rockets.

One thing that gets lost of the shuffle with Houston is that they were 39-13 against teams with a winning record. That’s a far lower winning percentage (.750) than they had against losing outfits (.861).

Houston Rockets

One area where Houston will try to tighten up heading in to Game 3 is at the defensive end of the floor. After allowing the Jazz to shoot 51.8-percent form the floor including 46.9-percent from beyond the arc, Houston simply has to play better if they want to get ahead in the series.

As for at the other end of the floor, the Rockets need more from players like Trevor Ariza and Eric Gordon. Gordon scored just 15 points on 5-of-16 from the field in the Game 2 loss. Ariza finished with just five points and was a -10 when he was on the floor. James Harden scored a game-high 32 points but even he was just 2-of-10 from beyond the arc and just 9-of-22 from the field. The Rockets were whipped on the three-point line, allowing the Jazz to go 15-of-32 while shooting just 10-of-37 themselves. In a matchup of offense versus defense, the Jazz got the better of them in Game 2. Houston has to see what worked well in Game 1 and get back to that in this NBA matchup.

Utah Jazz

Utah continues to get strong contributions across the board in these playoffs. Their story has been that the sum of the parts is greater than the individual. It was Ingles’ turn to lead the way in Game 2 as he scored a team-high 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field while hitting 7-of-9 attempts from three-point range. Meanwhile, rookie Donovan Mitchell continues his outstanding playoffs with 17 points, 11 assists and five rebounds. Mitchell has been incredible so far this postseason.

What’s interesting to note is that the Jazz shot very well in Game 1 as they hit 50 percent of their shots. They also did a good job with the Rockets, holding them to 110 points. If they can keep Houston in that range or lower, they’ll have a shot to win Game 3 and this series.
