Raptors vs. Thunder NBA Betting Odds

Toronto is playing fairly good basketball of late, but there’s a good chance it is looking at a winless three-game trip as after visiting Oklahoma City on Friday, the Dinos go to Houston on Sunday and then Philadelphia on Tuesday before returning home for a single game next Wednesday ahead of the All-Star break.

The Thunder took that “major” leap forward last season in getting to 57 regular-season victories and reaching the Western Conference semifinals, but nothing short of the franchise’s first trip to the NBA Finals will suffice this time. Barring major injury, OKC is going to finish with the West’s best record and thus home-court advantage throughout those playoffs. The Thunder are an NBA-best 22-3 at home and +115 favourites to win the West.

They also have the NBA’s best defence and quite possibly its best all-around player right now in 26-year-old guard and Toronto native Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He was an MVP finalist last year and should win it this time as the -550 heavy favourite. What should scare the rest of the league is that OKC is largely crushing people despite not having had All-Star-calibre centre Chet Holmgren since Nov. 10 due to a hip injury. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is a major game-changer on the boards and defensively … and may return Friday. The only flaw on this roster is a lack of championship experience.

Oklahoma City tries for the season sweep as it won easily in Toronto, 129-92, on Dec. 5. Gilgeous-Alexander was just 1-for-10 in a return to his hometown but had 30 points. Isaiah Hartenstein has been starting at centre with Holmgren out and had an interesting line of two points, 16 rebounds and six assists. RJ Barrett led Toronto with 17 points and 11 assists. The Dinos were without a few regulars.

Oklahoma City is 6-4 SU & 5-5 ATS in the past 10 meetings with the over-under at 6-4.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto concluded a four-game homestand at a disappointing 1-3 with Wednesday’s 138-107 loss to Memphis, but that was a horrible spot for the Raptors in the second of a back-to-back and playing without leading scorer RJ Barrett (concussion protocol) and starting centre Jakob Poeltl (hip). Consider both questionable Friday. The Dinos looked gassed in the second half against the Grizzlies in allowing a whopping 85 points, a season high for Memphis. One major bright spot in the loss was Jamal Shead. The second-round rookie made his first career start and had 14 points and four assists in 30 minutes. He has now scored in double digits for three straight games, also a career best. Raptors rookies have totaled the third-most points in the NBA this season among first-year players. The Toronto roster will look at bit different following Thursday’s trade deadline with the likes of Davion Mitchell, Bruce Brown and Kelly Olynyk gone and the biggest piece back as former Pelicans All-Star forward Brandon Ingram. However, the injury-plagued Ingram has been out since early December with a significant lower left ankle sprain and reportedly won’t be back until after the All-Star break. The Raptors are 8-4 ATS in their past 12.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City won its third straight game (all in blowout fashion) Wednesday, 140-109 over Phoenix behind 50 points from superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA singlehandedly outscored the Suns 37-34 from the 6:36 mark of the second quarter until he made the last of his 18 field goals early in the fourth quarter. It was his third career 50-point game, and all have come in the past seven games. That span is the shortest by a player who recorded the first three 50-point games in his career. Only eight others have scored 50 three times over seven games in NBA history: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Luka Doncic, James Harden, Michael Jordan and Damian Lillard. Over the past 10 games, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 39.1 PPG. OKC will only get better Friday with the likely return of second-year centre Chet Holmgren, who was playing at very high level before going down Nov. 10 with a hip injury. Holmgren is not on the injury report for Friday, should have a pretty stringent minutes restriction and perhaps coms off the bench unless the Thunder want a Twin Towers lineup with Holmgren and fellow 7-footer Isaiah Hartenstein. OKC is 6-0 ATS in its past six against the East.
