The Raptors retired Vince Carter‘s jersey on Saturday ahead of their game against Sacramento, so it was only fitting they pulled away with a 131-128 overtime win. Meanwhile in the Mile High City, the Nuggets’ slow start to the season was forgotten when they blew out Utah 129-103.

Denver opened as an 8.5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, with the total set at 228.5.

Raptors vs. Nuggets NBA Betting Odds

With roughly 90 per cent of early betting action favouring the Nuggets, the line has grown to Denver -10.5 as of early Monday afternoon. The Over has also been bumped up to 231.5, which makes sense as these teams hit the Over in both games last season. The Nuggets swept the season series last year, although the second game was decided in overtime.

This game has one of the highest totals in the NBA on Monday night and there is good reason for that. Toronto has hit the Over in six of seven games this season, while Denver has hit the Over in four of six. Overall, five of the last six head-to-heads have finished above the number.

The Raptors have been a surprisingly good option for bettors this year at 6-1 against the spread. It’s been a totally different story for the disappointing Nuggets, who have covered just twice in six games.

The trends say Denver is the play on the moneyline. The Nuggets have won 10 straight games against Eastern Conference opponents and six straight against the Atlantic Division. Conversely, the Raptors are just 1-14 straight up in their last 15 games against Western teams and they’ve lost five straight road games.

Toronto Raptors

It came down to overtime, but the Dinos managed to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday. RJ Barrett led the team with 31 points and nine rebounds, while Chris Boucher scored a season-high 24 points. Gradey Dick and Ochai Agbaji finished with matching stat lines of 22 points, five rebounds and two assists. The team made a season-high 17 three-pointers while winning for the first time since losing Scottie Barnes to a right orbital fracture that will sideline the All-Star for at least three weeks. Toronto will also miss Bruce Brown (knee) and Immanuel Quickley (pelvis).

Barrett and Dick have kept the team afloat in the absence of Barnes. Barrett is averaging a team-high 28.8 points per game, while Dick is second at 21.0 ppg. Those are career-best numbers for both players. Despite sitting three-games below .500, the Raptors have been one of the highest scoring teams in the NBA this season. Toronto ranks fifth in average points (119.4) and ninth in field goal percentage (47.6). The wins haven’t come in large part because of how many points the Raps give up and they sit 24th in point differential (-6.1).

Denver Nuggets

At 3-3, it’s been a surprisingly slow start to the year for the Nuggets, who won at home for the first time on Saturday. Nikola Jokic finished with a game-high 27 points, while Michael Porter Jr. had 20 and Julian Strawther had 19. Jamal Murray missed the game in concussion protocol and he’s been ruled out on Monday. Even with Denver’s struggles, Jokic continues to dominate. The three-time NBA MVP is fifth in league scoring with 29.8 ppg and he also leads the Nuggets in rebounds (12.3) and assists (9.8) per game.

With Murray remaining out of the lineup, Russell Westbrook (yes, he’s still somehow playing) will likely get the start again in Murray’s place. Westbrook wasn’t overly effective in his start against Utah on Saturday as he finished with just five points, but he did generate some opportunities with seven assists.
