The Raptors hit the road reeling from a heartbreaking 127-125 overtime loss to Denver on Monday night that leaves them with just one victory in four games to start the NBA season. The Hornets have been idle since dropping a 114-106 decision to Miami in last Saturday’s home opener, extending a dismal run at Spectrum Center, where they have lost 10 of 13 contests since last season’s NBA All-Star Break.

The Hornets lead the way as 6.5-point home favourites on the Wednesday NBA odds. The Raptors trail as +200 underdogs on the NBA moneyline and the total is listed at 223.5.

Raptors vs. Hornets NBA Betting Odds

Wednesday night’s contest marks the first of three scheduled meetings this season between these Eastern Conference rivals. The Raptors have largely dominated when facing the Hornets, winning three of four matchups last season and going 13-4 in 17 head-to-head clashes since the start of the 2019-2020 season, but have gone just 5-3 in eight road dates with Charlotte over that stretch. While the Raptors have dominated on the scoreboard, it is the Hornets who have recently produced results on the NBA odds, covering in three of their past four dates with the Raptors, snapping a dismal 1-6 ATS run. The Hornets have also covered twice during a 1-2 start to the season and are 4-4 ATS during their current 1-7 straight up run at home. However, the Raptors have remained also remained a solid bet on the road despite their recent woes, going 5-2 ATS in their past seven.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors will be looking to rebound after letting a 15-point second-half lead slip away in Monday night’s 127-125 overtime loss to the Nuggets. The club had their chances to win despite shooting just 45% from the field and a meagre 28.6% from beyond the arc. Scottie Barnes once again led the way, with a team-high 21 points and came within one assist of recording his first triple-double of the season, but was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter after taking an elbow in the face from Nikola Jokic that leaves his status for Wednesday night uncertain. Local boy RJ Barrett showed no ill effects of the shoulder injury that sidelined him for the first three games of the season, scoring 20 points, while big man Jakob Poeltl dominated in the paint, pulling down a game-high 19 rebounds and currently ranks eighth in the NBA with 11.8 boards per game this season.

Charlotte Hornets

It was a case of too little, too late for the Hornets in Saturday’s home opener loss to the Heat. After allowing Miami to seize a double-digit lead early in the second half, the Hornets mounted a fourth-quarter rally that pulled them within three points before the Heat settled matters with 10 points in the final two minutes. Charlotte has now scored 106 or fewer points in eight of 13 home dates, and in two of their first three games of the season, leaving them with plenty of work to do after finishing last season as the NBA’s second lowest scoring team. However, double-digit point totals from all five starters in Saturday’s game suggests things are headed in that direction. LaMelo Ball piled up a game-high 27 points along with six rebounds in Saturday’s loss and trails only Anthony Davis and Nikola Jokic with 31.7 points per game so far this season.
