Speaking of rest, both sides will have been out of action for a few days. The Raptors were at home on Thursday to face the Minnesota Timberwolves. The return of Scottie Barnes energized the club en route to a 110-105 victory. The Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back from their only loss of the season with a 128-100 win over the Pelicans on Wednesday.

Our NBA odds have the Cavaliers as massive -11.5 favourites.

Raptors vs. Cavaliers NBA Betting Odds

Sunday night is the second time this season these Eastern Conference foes face one another. Cleveland and Toronto opened their seasons against one another on October 23, a match the Cavs won 136-106. That, however, was a weakened Raptors squad due to injuries.

Overall, the Cavaliers have taken four of the last five against the Raptors. December 2022 was the last time Toronto walked off the court in Cleveland with a W.

Don’t look now, but Darko Rajakovic’ ensemble is an impressive 11-5 against the spread this season. They have not been favoured once, so playing close games helps a lot. To that point, Toronto is 3-2 against spreads greater than +10. If we include spreads of +9 or greater, the Raps are a solid 5-3. Even though the team is getting healthier, Bruce Brown, Immanuel Quickley, and Kelly Olynyk are still out.

There isn’t much to criticize about these Cavaliers. At 16-1 in the standings – far and away the best record – and 13-4 ATS, the team is soaring. They’ve covered multiple -10 spreads and even a -14 spread. Incidentally, the defeat in Boston on Tuesday was also a win against the spread. The best part is they’re doing it without any players in the top 10 in scoring – Donovan Mitchell is 15th with 24.3 points per match. Of note, Dean Wade is listed as Out, as is Caris LeVert. Isaac Okoro is day-to-day.

Toronto Raptors

Sunday night will be the biggest test of the season so far for the Raptors. That said, they have been in the lion’s den already a few times this season with games at Denver, the Lakers, the Clippers, and at home to these same Cavs.

For that matter, Thursday’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves was already the second meeting of the season. The Wolves had downed the dinos 112-101 in October, but this time Toronto got the better of them.

It was a special night given the return of Barnes to the lineup. He played 27 minutes and finished 5-for-11, with 17 points, three boards, and six assists. He looked spry and made some crucial plays down the stretch. Perhaps his presence lessened Jakob Poeltl’s impact (15 points after scoring like crazy in recent games). Then again, that might have been Rudy Gobert’s stout defending.

RJ Barrett’s 31 points led the Raptors, although Chris Boucher bolstered the attack off the bench with 22. This was a terrific, back-and-forth affair for which the outcome was anyone’s guess in crunch time. Make the final a nice 110-105 win for Toronto.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Even without Garland in the lineup, there was no letdown on Wednesday evening at home to the New Orleans Pelicans. To be fair, the Pelicans are one of the most injury-prone sides in the entire NBA.

Even so, head coach Kenny Atkinson needed a rebound match from his group after losing for the first time all season. Rebound they did to the tune of an easy 128-100 win. A better overall shooting night (52.7 percent to 42.4 per cent), a vastly superior one from beyond the arc (42.9 per cent to 25.8) and better efficiency from the charity line (85.7 per cent to 63.6 per cent). Cleveland was the better team by every metric.

Ty Jerome had a career-high 29 points, Georges Niang came off the bench to add 20 points, and rookie Jaylon Tyson played his biggest game yet (37 minutes, 11 boards, 16 points).
