That’s if the Raptors are able to play in the midst of COVID issues on the team; this matchup was originally to be Tuesday and Wednesday’s date is tentative.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This is the final “home” game before the All-Star break for the Dinos and their first look at Detroit.

It’s fair to say the Pistons are the least-talented team in the NBA these days. They used to have former league MVP Derrick Rose, but he was shipped off a few weeks ago to the New York Knicks. Multiple-time All-Star Blake Griffin is still on the Detroit roster, but he’s a shell of his former self and maybe the most overpaid player in the league. The Pistons are so down on him that they aren’t playing Griffin – he will either be traded by the March 25 deadline or bought out.

The team is also without starting point guard Delon Wright, a former Raptor, until after the All-Star break due to a right groin strain. He was averaging 10.6 points, 4.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds. Rookie point guard Killian Hayes, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 draft, hasn’t played since early January due to a serious hip injury.

Detroit is all about playing young guys the rest of the way and potentially earning the No. 1 overall pick in a loaded 2021 NBA Draft. Of course, the Pistons’ coach is former Raptors coach Dwane Casey – but Casey may not make it through this season and most likely will not be back for the 2021-22 campaign.

Toronto swept the 2019-20 series 3-0. The Dinos are 7-3 in the past 10 meetings, but the teams have split those against the spread.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit lost for the third straight game and sixth in the past seven Sunday, 109-90 at home to the Knicks. Dennis Smith Jr. had been playing pretty well for the Pistons after coming over from the Knicks in that Rose trade but was held to seven points Sunday on 3-for-11 shooting. Promising young player Sekou Doumbouya had only three points and hasn’t been quite the same since suffering a concussion Feb. 12. Detroit shot 38.4 per cent overall. The Pistons rank near the bottom of the NBA in scoring (107.5 ppg) and shooting (43.8 per cent). Detroit is among the league leaders in bench scoring, though. It is 4-4-2 ATS in its past 10 as a road dog.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors were for sure going to be without Coach Nick Nurse and most of his staff as well as Pascal Siakam due to COVID protocols Sunday vs. Chicago, but the game was eventually postponed because the Dinos weren’t going to have the required eight available players. The NBA revealed Toronto is dealing with multiple positive test results, but did not disclose how many.

If Wednesday’s game does happen, Siakam will not play until after the upcoming All-Star break. It may not be known until early Wednesday whether this game happens. The Raptors signed forward Donta Hall to a 10-day contract on Friday, and he joined the team’s G-League affiliate down the road from Tampa in Orlando. Perhaps he will be needed Wednesday simply to fill out the roster if the game is a go. The Dinos are 4-6 ATS in their past 10 as home favourites.
