Three straight losses has pushed the Mavericks outside of the West’s playoff picture, while Utah’s at the bottom of the conference with a 2-8 record.

The encouraging sign with Dallas is all three losses have been by a combined six points, and they’re coming off a thrilling 120-117 defeat at Golden State in Klay Thompson’s return to his old home. Utah’s bounced back from an 0-6 start by winning two of their last four, but both of their last two defeats had the Jazz again trying to claw out of double-digit deficits.

Tip-off at the Delta Center goes at 9 p.m. EST with the Mavericks a 9.5-point road favourite and the over-under at 231.5 on the NBA odds.

Mavericks vs. Jazz NBA Betting Odds

Thursday will mark the sixth Jazz home game this season, and they’re still seeking their first win in front of home fans. Four of Utah’s five home losses have been by at least eight points, and three by double-digits. Utah is 1-4 ATS at home this season.

Dallas enters Thursday having dropped six of their last seven contests, but are 6-1 in their last seven meetings with Utah. These teams met for the first time this season on October 28, where Dallas took the contest 110-102. Utah scored 43 first-half points in the loss, but Jazz guard Collin Sexton caught fire going nine for 11 from the field and scoring a game-high 23 in the loss.

Five of the last six Mavericks–Jazz meetings played in Utah have gone under the total. Utah is currently last in the NBA with 105.7 points per contest.

Dallas Mavericks

Dallas has caught the injury bug early into this NBA season, but are fighting through it. Both Luka Donic (groin) and Dereck Lively II (shoulder) were questionable to suit up Tuesday but both played and contributed offensively, Doncic with a game-high 31 and Lively scoring 12 off the bench. Both should again be good for Thursday, but it makes getting ahead early even more crucial as there’s a spot to be able to rest the two in the second half if a Dallas lead builds up.

P.J. Washington (knee) missed his fourth straight game and is listed as doubtful to play Thursday. Without Washington, Dallas has gone to Naji Marshall in the starting lineup. Marshall’s scored double digits in three of his last five outings.

Utah Jazz

Utah’s 2-2 stretch over the past 10 days is in large measure to their offence going up a notch. The Jazz, still the NBA’s lowest-scoring team, have hit 110 points in three of their last four and have gone 2-1 when doing so. But on the flip side, Utah’s scoring uptick has been a result of a faster pace overall — and while the Jazz are getting above 110, their opponents are hitting 120.

This was exactly the case Tuesday when Phoenix defeated Utah 120-112. The Jazz attempted 92 field goals in the regulation loss, which is above average in the NBA. Utah struggled to defend the three in Tuesday’s loss too, and therefore couldn’t keep up with the Suns fire power.

Starting forward John Collins is on a nice run for the Jazz, scoring just under 20 points per night in November while also hitting double-digit rebounds in three of his last four outings.
