Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic continues to make his case for the MVP after falling one assist shy of picking up his third triple-double in four games. Doncic finished with 34 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists in the 104-93 win over the Hornets on Wednesday, and he also picked up a career-high four blocks. Doncic is averaging 27.4 points per game, 9.6 rebounds and 8.3 assists, all team highs. Kristaps Porzingis made his season debut on Wednesday, after tearing the meniscus in his right knee during the playoffs, and finished with 16 points, including four three-pointers. After missing several players due to health and safety protocols, it likely won’t be clear exactly which players will be in the lineup on Friday, until close to game time.
Milwaukee Bucks
The reigning two-time NBA MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, continued to walk all over opponents, in Milwaukee’s 110-101 win over the Pistons on Wednesday. Antetokounmpo picked up his 20th career triple-double, finishing the game with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Antetokounmpo leads the Bucks in points (26.2) and rebounds (10.1) and is second only to Khris Middleton in assists (5.7 for Middleton, 5.5 for Antetokounmpo). Jrue Holiday has also been key to Milwaukee’s game plan, this season. Holiday finished with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists in the win over the Pistons and is averaging 15.2 points and five assists per game. The Bucks have now won six of their last seven games and they only seem to be getting stronger.
