There will be a festive mood in the air on Saturday night when Toronto Raptors legend Vince Carter has his jersey retired at the Scotiabank Arena. As great as the player the team and fans will celebrate was, the current iteration of the Raptors needs its best players back from injury. On Friday they hosted the Los Angeles Lakers and put it a decent effort in the second half, only to lose 131-125. The Kings could be tired from their travels. They were in Atlanta on Friday to play the Hawks, where they won 123-115.

Our NBA odds heavily favour the visiting Kings, having pegged them at -7.5.

Kings vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Looking at the 10 most recent encounters between these franchises the results favour Toronto at 6-4. However, that belies the fact that the 2019-2021 Toronto victories occurred when the Raptors still had most of the championship-calibre roster. Sacramento has won three of the last four games during the time when the Raptors have been on the slide and the Kings on the rise.

It’s still early days of the 2024-25 NBA campaign, yet the Kings have already been on a mini roller coaster ride. They opened the season with a pair of defeats against playoff-calibre clubs (Lakers, Timberwolves) but have since course-corrected versus lower sides like the Jazz and Hawks. Against the spread, they’re 2-2-1. As in the past couple of years, the Kings are one of the better-scoring teams in the league, sitting in eighth with 117.8 per match.

Toronto is right behind them in ninth (117.5), which is quite remarkable given the personnel they lack (Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, Bruce Brown). The absentees are hurting the Raptors on the defensive side of the ball. Toronto gives up the most points per game in the entire league with 125.2. All that said, the big spreads against them (they’re usually the underdog) have translated to a 5-1 ATS tally. What’s more, their good offence and bad defence means the over is 5-1.

Sacramento Kings

One wonders what the Kings will have in the tank on Saturday night after the match versus the Hawks. Atlanta isn’t exactly next door to Toronto. Even if it were, it’s still a travel day and Friday’s contest was a barn burner that eventually went Sacramento’s way, 123-115.

Try as they might, the Kings could never truly keep the Hawks grounded. They led by double-digits multiple times (the lead grew by as many as 18 at one point), but Atlanta, led by Trae Young’s 25 points, never quit.

Thankfully De’Aaron Fox, who was Clutch Player of the Year in 2023, was, well, clutch, netting 31 points to lead his side. His efficiency was strong by going 11-for-16 from the floor and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. New Kings and former Raptor DeMar DeRozan was right behind Fox, scoring 27 points. Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis combined for 24 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors were in tough in the first half on Friday at home versus LeBron James and the Lakers, but they willed their way back into the contest. Despite their efforts, they still fell short, 131-115.

L.A. totally blasted Toronto in the first quarter, claiming a 43-19 advantage. The visitors were shooting 69 per cent from the floor at that stage, an incredible number. But head coach Darko Rajakovic has his team believing in its abilities now. Toronto won the second half 74-55. The lead was even cut to as little as six points in the fourth quarter.

RJ Barrett continues to be a force. He finished with 33 points and 12 assists. His hookups with Jakob Poeltl (19 points) fuelled the comeback. Gradey Dick had a career-best 31 points.
