Jazz vs. Lakers Prediction: NBA Odds, Point Spread

Jeremy Perry | Updated Apr 18, 2021

The Jazz still have the best record in the Western Conference but they have been out of rhythm as of late, going just 4-4 in their last eight games. For a team that’s 42-15 on the season, that’s a significant drop-off.

The Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers engaged in an overtime slugfest on Saturday night and the Lakers came out on top 127-115. It has to be a little bit demoralizing for the Jazz, who are trying to prove that they are, in fact, a championship contender. The Lakers were without LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but the Jazz decided to rest many key pieces and were already without Donovan Mitchell.  Utah is favoured to win on the NBA odds for Monday’s meeting.

With the two teams meeting up again on Monday night, can the Jazz make amends for Saturday’s loss?

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Jazz have been a good bounce-back team this season as they are 11-3 off a loss and are 17-6 straight up after an against the spread loss. However, they are just 6-8 and 10-13 ATS, respectively, in both scenarios.

The Lakers don’t fare well as a dog as they are just 3-11 on the year when posted as a dog compared to 35-13 when favoured. They are also 0-4 straight up and ATS as a home dog this season.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz are going to be a bit bummed after their performance on Saturday night but the reality is they put their B-squad out there to match the Lakers second team. The Jazz were without Mitchell – and will be again – but they also rested Mike Conley Jr., Rudy Gobert and others. The Jazz went from being a 9.5-point favourite when the line opened to being a 1.5-point underdog by tip-off.

The Jazz still have the best record in the Western Conference but they have been out of rhythm as of late. They had a nine-game winning streak that was snapped in early April. Since then, they are just 4-4 in their last eight games. For a team that’s 42-15 on the season, that’s a significant drop-off.

They should be able to get the win on Monday, though, as they have the better roster right now. If Gobert, Conley and others are back in the lineup, they’ll probably be able to handle the Lakers, who are without their two biggest stars.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers made a bit of a statement on Saturday night, picking up a win over the top-seeded Jazz. The Lakers have done a good job of late showing their supporting cast can earn some key wins – even when the stars are out. This is a team that started out the year 21-6 and is just 14-16 since. However, they had some really troubling spells and are now at least treading water. They have alternated wins and losses for 11 straight contests. If that trend continues on Monday, they’re in for a loss.

The Lakers still have some talent in the lineup as Dennis Schroder had 25 points on Saturday while Markieff Morris had a double-double. Andre Drummond is also fresh off his best game as a Laker, picking up 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in 30 minutes. Another effort like that and the Lakers might pull this off.
