The Hawks are 6-point home underdogs on the NBA odds.

Celtics vs. Hawks NBA Playoffs Betting Odds

With Atlanta shockingly winning Game 5 in Boston as a double-digit underdog to trim the series deficit to 3-2, the Celtics are -3333 on the series line with the Hawks +866. The favoured exact result is Boston in six at -208, followed by Celtics in seven at +185 and Hawks in seven at +1345.

The happiest team in the NBA other than Atlanta after the Hawks’ Game 5 upset was East third seed Philadelphia, which will meet the winner of this series in the conference semifinals. Had the Celtics won Tuesday as expected, the Sixers would have visited Boston in Game 1 on Saturday. Now that series can’t start before Monday, meaning two more days of much-needed rest of banged-up Sixers centre and sure-fire league MVP Joel Embiid.

Boston is 8-2 ATS in the past 10 vs. Atlanta.

Boston Celtics

Boston closed Game 5 as a 13-point home favourite against Atlanta and blew a 13-point lead about midway through the fourth quarter in a truly stunning 119-117 loss. The C’s did tend to play down to their competition at times this season, though, as they are now just 12-8 straight up as a favourite of at least 10 points. Jaylen Brown was terrific with 35 points, but Jayson Tatum was just 1-for-10 from deep and finished with 19 points and a minus-9 rating in easily his worst game of the series. Guard Derrick White has the best rating on the team at plus-9 and hit two free throws with 7.1 seconds left for a 117-116 lead. The Celtics are 4-0 ATS in their past four after a loss.

Atlanta Hawks

Hawks All-Star Trae Young struggled in the first two games of this series, but he’s rolling now. Young led Atlanta on a game-closing 23-8 run in Game 4 and scored 16 of his game-high 38 points in the fourth quarter, including a 30-foot game-winner with 2.1 seconds remaining from about the Celtics logo at halfcourt for the win. Young’s go-ahead three was the second time a player made at least a 30-foot go-ahead shot in the final five seconds of the fourth quarter or OT in the last 25 seasons. The other was Portland’s Damian Lillard from 36 feet to eliminate Oklahoma City in Game 5 of Round 1 in 2019. Young has 60 fourth-quarter points in the series, the most fourth-quarter points through the first five games of a playoff series since Kevin Durant in 2011. The Hawks played without their other All-Star guard in Dejounte Murray due to suspension, but he’ll be back Thursday. Atlanta is 2-5 ATS in its past seven at home.
