Eager to atone for a forgettable performance in his playoff debut in Game 1, Garland sparked the Cavs with 26 points in the first half including 15 points in the second frame that helped propel Cleveland to a 20-point lead at halftime. Garland finished the night with a game-high 32 points to go along with seven assists. Ending a stretch of eight games during which he topped 20 points just once. Donovan Mitchell tallied just 17 points but excelled in a playmaker role, picking up 13 helpers, and has now averaged 10.5 assists in the series.
New York Knicks
Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson provided the bulk of the offence for New York once again in Game 2. The duo was key to the Knicks’ series-opening win, with Randle dropping 19 boards and pulling down 10 rebounds in his first game back after missing the final five games of the regular season. Brunson led the way with 27 points including 21 after recess. It was more of the same in Game 2, with the pair generating a combined 42 points. However, Brunson struggled from beyond the arc, going just 1-for-8 from downtown while Randle committed six turnovers on the night. RJ Barrett has averaged just 10.5 points per game in the series, and big man Mitchell Robinson has averaged just 6.5 rebounds after averaging over 15 over his final four regular season appearances.
