Norman Powell, Raptors, 2019

The Raptors continue to have bad luck on the injury front. They will be without guard Norman Powell indefinitely after he suffered a fractured bone in his hand in Friday’s win over Detroit.

A litany of injuries hasn’t derailed the Toronto Raptors’s quest to repeat as NBA champions – but they’ll have to deal with yet another key absence Sunday as they put their 10-game winning streak on the line against visiting Chicago. The Raptors will be without guard Norman Powell indefinitely after he suffered a fractured bone in his hand in Friday’s win over Detroit. But the Raptors might not need him to subdue a Bulls team that has lost two in a row.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

It takes a special team to consistently cover as a double-digit favourite – and the Raptors certainly belong on that list, having gone 7-1 ATS over their previous eight games in that scenario. That includes a 124-101 road triumph over the Bulls at -10.5. Chicago has two narrow covers in its previous two games when receiving 10 or more points, but has just one cover in its past five games overall and has lost each of its past 10 meetings with the Raptors.

The total for Sunday’s contest is set at 217 – and that might draw plenty of interest from Over bettors. Chicago has been a strong Over play of late, having gone 5-1 O/U in its past six games; all five of those Over results finished north of 220 total points. The Raptors, meanwhile, have cashed the Over in seven of their past 10 outings overall and are a sparkling 7-2 to the Over in their previous nine games against Eastern Conference foes.

Chicago Bulls

It’s easy to pinpoint the biggest contributor to the Bulls’ current 10-game losing streak in their series with the Raptors. Chicago has had all sorts of problems generating much offence against a formidable Toronto defence, scoring fewer than 105 points in each of their previous seven meetings. And things have been even worse of late, with Chicago averaging a dismal 88 points in its first two encounters with the Raptors so far in 2019-20.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto’s defence has ruled the day against Chicago, and the Raptors might need to lean on it a little more with Powell and his 15.3 points per game sidelined for this one. But on the other hand, Toronto has plenty of other options on offence, including team scoring leader and All-Star forward Pascal Siakam (23.8 ppg) and forward Serge Ibaka (15.4 ppg), who leads the team in field-goal shooting at 51.7 percent and has scored 20+ points in three straight.
