The Nets hung on to claim a 116-109 win over Indiana on Monday night, snapping a four-game slide that included the first two dates on their current four-game homestand. The Bulls hit the road looking to snap a two-game swoon, capped by Saturday’s 114-109 loss to the visiting Philadelphia 76ers, and are also winless in two road dates heading into Tuesday’s action.

With the betting action split evenly between these clubs, the Nets have faded to slim 1-point favourites to win on the NBA odds since opening as 1.5-point chalk. The total is also in decline since opening at 232.5, tumbling to 231. However, it is the OVER that has attracted the support of 63 per cent of sports bettors.

Tuesday night’s matchup at Barclays Center marks the first of four meetings this season between these Eastern Conference rivals. The Bulls took two of three from Brooklyn last season, but dropped a lopsided 138-112 decision when they last faced the Nets in a January clash on home hardwood. However, the Nets hold the overall advantage in head-to-head action, winning in 13 of 18 clashes since 2016.

Low scoring has been commonplace in recent matchups, fuelling a 6-1-0 run for the UNDER. While Monday’s win was welcome, the Nets face a massive challenge to halt their dismal performance in the back half of games played on consecutive nights after going 1-11 straight up in their past 12, including a 0-7 run on home court.

Chicago Bulls

With injuries emerging as a concern, the Bulls have struggled to produce steady results during the early stages of the season. Among the walking wounded are shooting guard Zach LaVine and shooting guard Ayo Dosunmu. LaVine has been limited to just four appearances due to a knee issue, and after recording 20 points in Saturday’s defeat, he is expected to be in the lineup on Tuesday. Dosunmu is listed as questionable as he looks to rebound from a chest injury. The 22-year-old missed Saturday’s date with the Sixers after seeing just 20 minutes of action, and picking up just 12 points, in last Friday’s 129-124 loss in San Antonio.

On a positive note, veteran DeMar DeRozan has enjoyed a productive start, racking up a team-leading 25.9 points per game, and has averaged 34 points per game over three road contests to date.

Brooklyn Nets

Still smarting from a tough 2021-22 NBA campaign that was marred by injuries, a lengthy losing streak, and a speedy exit from the NBA playoffs, the Nets have stumbled out of the gate. Monday’s win marks just their second victory of the season, raising concerns about whether the “culture” issues that general manager Sean Marks spoke of at the start of the offseason have been addressed. Statistically, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are off to a solid start, averaging 32.6 and 30.1 points per game, respectively. However, the dynamic duo has received little help from the supporting cast, with Nic Claxton and David Duke Jr. the only other players averaging at least 10 points per game.

It has been an enormously disappointing start for Ben Simmons. Acquired last season in the deal that sent James Harden to Philadelphia, Simmons has averaged just 6.2 points in six games, and remains hampered by a knee injury that leaves him listed as day-to-day. Simmons’ struggles have not helped the beleaguered Nets defence, which ranks 28th in the league in points per game, and has surrendered 125 or more points in three of four home dates.
