Both looking to further solidify their playoff position, the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics will meet for the third and final time this season on Tuesday night in Boston.  The 76ers have won the previous two meetings between these teams, but this will be the first time they play the Celtics in Boston this year.

Philly opened as 2-point favourites to win on the NBA odds with a total of 222.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The 76ers haven’t fared well in Boston over the last few years, dropping eight of their last nine games at TD Garden.  They’re 27-20-3 against the spread this season, but they have failed to cover in four of their last five games.  Philly has been an Under team in six of their last eight games overall and six of their last seven road games.

Boston is an even 3-3 in their last six home games, which isn’t good enough with the Knicks and Pacers directly behind them in the standings.  They’re 8-1 ATS in their last nine home games against the 76ers and they’ve covered in five of their last seven games overall this year.  Their defence has stepped up big time lately.  The Celtics haven’t allowed more than 115 points in six straight games, going Under the total in five of those contests.  They total has also gone Under in their last five home games.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers are looking to get back on track after a 116-100 loss to Memphis on Sunday.  Joel Embiid sat out against Memphis, after previously returning to the lineup in Philly’s 122-113 win over Minnesota on Saturday.  The tough back-to-back is likely a big factor in the Memphis loss.  Embiid is expected back in the lineup on Tuesday.  He had 24 points and eight rebounds against Minnesota and the 76ers look like they desperately need his strong two-way play back in the lineup.  Embiid is second in the NBA with 29.8 points per game and he also averages team-highs in rebounds (11.3) and blocks (1.4).  With Embiid back in the lineup, Philly can beat any team in the NBA.

Boston Celtics

Boston’s inconsistency and injury issues have hurt them in the standings.  Coming into this season looking like a championship contender, the Celtics are barely .500 on the year and sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.  Tristan Thompson and Semi Ojeleye will miss this game due to injury, but the rest of the lineup should be intact.  Jayson Tatum will be Boston’s key player in this game.  Tatum has had at least 20 points in each of his last six games, including a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds in a 116-86 blowout win over the Pelicans on Sunday.  Jaylen Brown has also been important to this team.  Brown had a monstrous 42-point performance in his last game against Philly and has put up at least 17 points in 10 straight games.
