NASCAR Odds & Predictions: Super Market Heroes 500
The Food City 500 marks the third NASCAR series race since the Covid-19 pandemic stopped competition. Last weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina, Brad Keslowski won the Coca-Cola 600 that included a rain delay and overtime. It was the longest race, by miles, in NASCAR history. Keslowski edged veteran Jimmie Johnson to win his 31st career Cup Series win.
Racing Analysis
The Food City 500 (Super Market Heroes 500) is an annual 500-lap, 266.5 miles NASCAR Cup Series points race held at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. This is one of two NASCAR races held at Bristol, the other being the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race.
Can the Candy Man do it again? Kyle Busch in the M & M number 18 car, has won this event five times, including back to back wins in 2018 and 2019. A member of Joe Gibbs Racing team has won this event in four of the last five years (Matt Kenseth 2015, Carl Edwards 2016). Busch is a +350 favourite at Sports Interaction to win the race for a third consecutive time.
Another driver to watch, as always, is points leader Kevin Harvick. Harvick has eight top 10 finishes this season and leads all drivers in most laps led this season with 391. There is some decent value in circling Harvick at +750 at Sports Interaction.
Also chalked at +750 is Joey Logano. Logano already has two wins this season and is only 14 points back of Harvick in points (second overall). JL also has four top 10 finishes in the 2020 season.
Could this be the event that Jimmie Johnson wins his first race in 2020? Johnson is in the final year of NASCAR career and has been very successful on this track. Johnson won at Bristol in 2017, finished third in 2018, and 10th in 2019. Johnson is +2200 to win this event. Johnson is a legend in the sport and his 83 wins tie him with Cale Yarborough for sixth-place for all-time wins.
Prediction
Johnson pushed the issue with Brad Keslowski last weekend at the Coca-Cola 600. At the end he just fell short, coming in second in the race, his best finish of the season. A lot of people think Johnson’s swan song will not see any success, but I think there is plenty of drive in the seven-time Nascar champion. Johnson has finished inside the top 11 in nine of the last 11 races at Bristol Motor Speedway including a victory in 2017.
It’s a long shot, but my selection is Jimmie Johnson to win the Super Market Heroes at +2200.
