Daniel Cormier vs. Anderson Silva UFC 200 Odds, Prediction
It’s not the fight that UFC fans expected to see Saturday night, but Daniel Cormier vs. Anderson Silva should be interesting if nothing else.
While UFC 200 shouldn’t have gone down like this, you have to hand it to the Ultimate Fighting Championship for putting together Daniel Cormier vs. Anderson Silva on just two days’ notice following Jon Jones’ positive drug test.
Daniel Cormier vs. Anderson Silva Odds
Given the fact that Silva is taking this fight without a training camp, not to mention the fact that he had his gallbladder removed about two months ago, it’s no surprise to see Spider as a +225 underdog with Cormier the -390 favourite. Actually, it might be surprising that he isn’t a much bigger underdog in these MMA odds against an opponent like Daniel Cormier.
UPDATE: Cormier moved to a -525 favourite Friday July 8.
Cormier had been preparing for the fight of his life in what would have been his rematch against Jon Jones at UFC 200. Now, instead of facing arguably the best fighter on the planet, he faces an MMA legend that is unquestionably on the downside of his career. Silva is now 41 years old and hasn’t won a fight since 2012, a stretch that includes three losses and a no contest. Plus, Silva is taking this fight at light heavyweight instead of his usual middleweight bouts.
UFC 200 Betting and PPV
When Jon Jones’ positive test was announced, many thought that UFC 200 was going to turn into a colossal flop. Without its main event of Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier, it was unquestionable still a very strong fight card, but didn’t have the same appeal to fight fans. Now, with Anderson Silva in the mix, UFC 200 could rake in even more pay-per-view buys that originally thought. So, hats off to the UFC for turning what looked to be a disaster into other great event.
Having said that, as brave as Silva is for taking this fight on such short notice, it’s hard to think this is a good idea. Cormier is a huge light heavyweight and has routinely tossed some of that division’s best fighters around like ragdolls. Given this opportunity, he’ll do that again Saturday night.
Silva’s unique fighting style, experience and striking speed and accuracy does give him a puncher’s chance in this matchup. Since this is a three-round non-title fight, that works in his favour too. However, if you’re assessing this matchup on pure pedigree instead of name recognition and nostalgia, Cormier would be a much bigger favourite.
Anderson Silva vs. Daniel Cormier Prediction
Cormier’s sheer strength and power will trump Silva’s style and striking. Bet UFC 200 odds on Cormier to win by TKO in the second round.
